The Art Deco Room at The Old School is our most popular room for single travellers. It offers great value for money with the homely feel & personal touches you’ll find in the best B & B’s.
Its stylish furnishings & décor wouldn’t look out of place in a boutique hotel, but here are a fraction of the price. Even the en-suite shower & basin are stylish! Guests have the use of our well equipped kitchen to save you money eating out. Our kitchen and lounge are great places to meet other travellers.
Here you can you can relax and unwind, venture out on foot for great walks or travel just a short distance by bike, bus or car to local towns, a cathedral city. The Art Deco Room is a cosy room with en-suite shower . In the room you have a standard bunk bed with all bedding & towels provided. At the foot of the bed is a stylish art deco chair a coffee table and a collapsible writing table & chair. Heating is by a wall mounted electric panel heater that you control. Your en-suite shower is decorated in true Art Deco style too. We can supply a hairdryer and iron, while toiletries and for light sleepers earplugs are in your room.
All around the hostel (including the loos!) you'll find quirky features, objects d'art, pictures, sculpture, even the furniture may make you smile!
Further entertainment is provided in the lounge, which has a radio and large choice of books and games, but be prepared, there is no T.V.! These days all you need is Wifi to access your favourite programmes and films, and we have a super fast speed now. We hope you'll find all you need here.
All guests can use our well equipped kitchen to prepare and eat meals, and our breakfast is available here in the mornings. The comfy lounge offers space to relax, read our books or enjoy many of the games and the kids will enjoy the toys too! There is Wifi throughout the hostel available free. After a day on the beach, surfing or coasteering wet clothes can be hung up in our drying room to be dry for the next day. We also offer a service wash and dry, or you can just hang things out on our washing lines! There is bike storage and plenty of space to park.
Interaction with guests
We live just across the yard from the hostel and are here to welcome you at check-in time. We’ll be available throughout your stay to answer any questions and offer advice about the area. There are also lots of maps and leaflets in the hostel about the local area with plenty of information about where to go and what to do.

Food glorious food!
•The nearest shop is about a mile away, turn left out of Ty Popty, and it is at the petrol station on the main road towards Fishguard at the top of the hill. It’s open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., seven days a week and has a good range of food and essentials.
•There is a medium sized Co-operative supermarket on the main A487 road into Fishguard, near the town centre. It is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday – Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
•On entering St Davids there is a medium sized Nisa supermarket open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday –Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
•Our village pub, ‘The Ship Inn’, is 3 minutes walk away. Turn right out of Ty Popty and then left along the main village street. It serves traditional pub food such as steak and ale pie, chips and peas and scampi, chips and peas. They also offer a selection of curries including a tasty chickpea vegetarian option. The Ship Inn is family friendly and has a beer garden. They serve food until 9 pm seven nights a week. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
•The village café, ‘The Mill’ is next to the pub and is a bright and airy place with works by local artists on the walls. It’s open from 8.30 am until 6 pm (9 am- 4 pm on Sundays) Easter – September, and 9 am till 4 pm every day October – Easter. The Mill serves home cooked food and is popular with locals and visitors alike. James’ cooked breakfasts are highly recommended. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
• 5 minutes drive or 45 minutes walk along the coast path is the well known and characterful Sloop Inn in Porthgain. They have an extensive menu and serve food until 9 p.m. seven nights a week. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
•In Porthgain there is also a relaxed and intimate harbour side bistro called The Shed which specialises in very good quality sea food including their upmarket version of traditional fish and chips. It’s quite pricey but is the place to go for a treat. It is open every evening in the season but has more limited opening from late autumn, winter and early spring. •The ‘local chippie’ take away for good value and good sized portions of fish and chips is at The Atramont Pub in the village of Croes Goch which is on the main road to St David’s, a 5 minute drive from Trefin. The Atramont show Sky Sports events on a big screen. It is closed for take aways on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Best to pre- order and pick up as it’s all cooked to order(URL HIDDEN)
