Great check-in experience94% of recent guests gave this home’s check-in process a 5-star rating.

The Protz family first constructed this home in rural Connecticut after fleeing the forward march of German troops during the Second World War. Convinced that the war would soon be coming to America, Mr. Protz constructed his home to act as a sort of fortress - In today's terms we wouldn't hesitate to call him a "prepper". You'll stay in the family's lower level, which before being converted to an in-law apartment served as the family's air raid shelter.

Great place, spacious kitchen, dining area, and living room. Lots of board games to play. Great weekend getaway. Had coffee, eggs, and creamer for us as well. Good communication as well.

On a cold winter’s night, this spacious apartment was well-heated. Plenty of hot water for showers in the morning. It has a good-sized galley kitchen for prepping meals. Washer and dryer are in the kitchen. There’s a decent mud room/entry with hooks for hanging coats. Mattress on…

We had a very nice stay in this lovely, secluded area. The apartment was spacious and had just about everything we needed, including cream and fresh eggs.
