Garden Cottage, built in 1936, is a charming old world home with modern amenities. Its coved ceilings, arched doorways and hardwood floors feature in this 2-bedroom vacation rental with a lovely private back yard, located near the Whitman College campus and downtown Walla Walla, Washington, with its shops and wineries. It is best suited for a romantic weekend getaway, solo or business travelers, work-from-home option, or for two couples visiting town.

The space
The Garden Cottage is located in a quiet neighborhood near Pioneer Park in the heart of Walla Walla, with off-street parking. This comfortable fully-furnished cottage features free WiFi, cable TV, a DVD player with DVDs, books and games in the living room.

The kitchen is equipped with dishes, glassware, utensils, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender and cookware to please a chef, while the dining area has seating for four. Note: There is no dishwasher.

The 2 queen bedrooms (one with a TV) have deluxe linens, and the bathroom, though small, has a tub/shower combination.

The beautiful back yard has several raised beds with shrubs and flowers, and guests may help themselves to the culinary herbs and strawberries in season. The patio contains a barbecue with propane, a ceramic fireplace, and several seating and dining areas with a view of the beautiful and lush backyard.

A set of outdoor dishes, barbecue tools, lawn/beach towels, lawn games and 2 mountain bikes with helmets, locks and a pump may be found in the garage. There is also space for secure storage of your own bicycles, kayaks or canoes while you’re here.

Guest access
Access to the home is via a keypad on the back door. There are 3 steps up into the kitchen from the back door; 4 steps up at the front door. Laundry facilities in the basement are available for guest use (9 steps). (The basement does have a locked storage room for owner use.)

The entire back yard is for your relaxation and enjoyment: patio with several seating and dining areas, a barbecue with propane and utensils, and a small garage where you can lock your bicycles, canoes or kayaks (keys inside the house). The garage also contains landscaping tools and supplies for owner's use.

The back porch with pet supplies and a dog run are provided for your pet. Guests may park on the driveway or out along the front.

Other things to note
Since the cottage is located in a residential area, guests are asked to respect the neighbors by observing quiet time from 10:00 pm until 8:00 a.m.

Your well-behaved dogs (maximum 2) are welcome; no cats please. Please contact me in advance if you wish to bring your dog(s), as a flat $50 pet fee will be requested. Please clean up after your pets and do not leave them alone inside or outside the house unless crated. Dog beds, dishes and blankets are provided.

During this time of the pandemic, please rest assured that I am doing extra cleaning and sanitizing of the cottage. I follow Airbnb's five-step enhanced cleaning process, based on Airbnb's cleaning handbook that was developed in partnership with experts.

Here are a few highlights of the steps I take:
Leave a minimum of 2 full days before and after each booking
Clean the cottage myself while wearing protective gear to prevent cross-
contamination
Air the house out while cleaning
Launder linens in hot water with germicidal bleach
Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as remotes and doorknobs
Provide hygiene and cleaning supplies for guest use (hand soap, paper
towels, disinfectant wipes and spray, hand sanitizer, masks and gloves).

As a recently retired teacher and librarian, I enjoy helping people learn. I love sharing the many features of the Walla Walla Valley with visitors. I grew up in northeastern Oregon, spent my teen years in northern Idaho, and have lived most of my adult years in the Pacific Northwest. One of my passions is gardening--I love growing vegetables, berries, herbs, and flowers. I enjoy classical & folk music (play the piano), travel, and learning about other cultures and languages. My travels so far include the US and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, China and Europe, and I anticipate more in the future! I love to welcome guests to my cozy 1930's cottage, with its spacious, park-like backyard. Since I live right in Walla Walla, I am available to assist guests promptly as needed while respecting your privacy.
