My cottage at the top of Lake Champlain is in a great central location for daytripping being one hour south of Montreal, one hour north of Burlington Vermont and one hour west of Mount Sutton.
I bought this cottage having future grandchildren in mind. I felt it would be safer to have a cottage not right on the lake and not on a busy road. My cottage and is on a side street two buildings in from the main lake shore road and I have a view of the lake from the north side of the cottage. It is stucco and was built in the 1940's. The cottage is well-suited for babies and young children as it is all on one floor , and I have no plants, and no nick knacks, or anything with small pieces. I have books, toys, dress up clothes, arts and crafts, and games. I also have a keyboard, guitar, and bongo drum for older children and adults interested in playing music .
Guests may use all of the space in the cottage except for the closet in the the master bedroom where the water heater is located . I have a yard with a portable table for eating and a deck which can fit four chairs . I have an herb garden and guests are welcome to use the herbs when cooking.
Interaction with guests
I am usually at my cottage to greet my guests with tea and apple crisp made from apples from my friend's orchard which is in the Eastern Townships close by. I show guests my collection of tourist information and maps and give suggestions for activities. I stay in a nearby village which is half an hour away and can be reached by text, phone, or email. Guests interested in exploring Vermont may be interested in joining my partner Jes and I at a Celtic music session which we host every Tuesday in St. Alban's VT . We also attend a Celtic session Wednesdays in Burlington VT. Guests may also drop in to visit at Jes's house in Franklin VT
Other things to note
The Eastern townships area of Quebec is close by and is quite bilingual so a good destination for guests worried about having to speak French only. Don't forget passports if you would like to go into Vermont or New York State (both are less than half an hour away).
I would describe myself as an artsy, musical person who likes kids and being outside a lot. I have been a reporter and a teacher who has taught both community college and public school. I now offer English immersions courses for travelers. I speak French as well as English. I play keyboard and accordion and like to get together with my partner ( who is from Vermont and who plays several instruments) to play and sing with other musicians. Guests are welcome to join if we have an event going on in Vermont. I know a lot of places to hike , canoe, and kayak within an hour of my cottage in either Quebec or Vermont. I also know a lot of cafes, musical venues, cinemas and used bookstores in the area. I have plans to travel to see my three kids who are traveling this year in Taiwan, Vietnam, and New Zealand. When I travel I enjoy staying at hostels to meet other travellers
