The thatched roof cottage was a wonderful way to experience a unique part of Ireland’s past. The modern updates inside made it easy to enjoy our current lifestyle while living in such a quaint home. The countryside nearby and the Abbey a short distance away were a welcome experience! A positive place to return to in the future. Thank you to Margaret and her family.

Four of us from Southern California wanted to experience a thatched cottage stay and we were very satisfied with Margaret's hospitality. Positives: 1) Amazing value. 2) There is good privacy for couples as each bedroom has a bathroom, although the rooms are small. 3) Margaret was a wonderful host and provided us weary travelers with a bottle of wine, cheese, bread, jam and other basics that we needed on our arrival since we hadn't stopped to buy groceries and stores are quite a distance away. Negatives--1) The house is difficult to find, especially at night. There is no real address therefore the GPS didn't know exact location so, even with the directions Margaret had provided, it was stressful to find on our arrival evening. Arrive before dark and be prepared to be confused. 2) Restaurants/pubs/stores are quite a distance away. Bring provisions with you. 3) There is no wifi which is both good and bad. I do recommend this property for people who want a traditional Irish cottage experience--thatched roof and peat fire from the owner's bog-- in a quiet location.

Fitzpatrick's Cottage is off the beaten track a bit and that's one of the reasons it was so charming. Wonderfully quiet area. Margaret was unable to meet us due to understandable circumstances out of her control but she was in constant contact on our first evening to make sure we had everything we needed and she called in to us on our second evening to say hello and make sure we were okay with everything. Really appreciated the welcome gift of wine and the makings of a breakfast, as well as the fully stocked makings of a fire which lasted the 4 nights we stayed there. Heating was set to come on every evening and morning which was appreciated and kept the place cosy. The cottage was clean and tidy and full of character. Really enjoyed out time there, would recommend.

The Fitzpatrick cottage is a dream come true ! Margaret had prepared everything to welcome us, we even had turf to light the fire. It's been like living in a fairy tale. Such a shame we didn't have more time to explore the surroundings. One thing is clear, we'll have to come back. Thank you Margaret, you're a star !

Wow. This place is fantastic. Far from everything yet still close to everything. Since we were travelling with 2 and 4 year old children the place offered so many things to distract them - like cows and horses. They are just outside the house. We could live our children there for hours. And Margaret... she is such a warm person and she made so many suggestions for children friendly activities which you can not find in any Lonely planet alike books. So I must thank here again. We had a terrific time and hopefully one day we can return.

Margaret's traditional thatched cottage was amazing to us. Convenient location near Kilkenny and also the hiking in the Slieve Bloom Mountains. We took in the sights, played some golf and tipped a pint or two. Having 2 bathrooms in the cottage was also a bonus. We rated our visit 5 stars.

TERRIFIC! Margaret describes it as a "cottage." What she offers is so much more than just that! It is a quite large two bedroom two bath home located in the middle of a working Irish dairy farm. Margaret owns two of these large guest houses. Both guesthouse are located quite far away from the main dairy farm and there is so much privacy .Renting them is basically a side business for their family. It is very secluded but easy to find if you use GPS. We were so fortunate to be able to stay there. The family enthusiastically invited us to come and visit them on their dairy farm. (it's just down the little street and across the small bridge!) We got to meet the horse, the cows and all of the other livestock on the property. We even got to see a newborn baby cow! We stayed there because of it's central location. We could go all over and see the Cliffs of Moher, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford, the Ring of Kerry and so much more. Dublin is close too! After a day of touring in the cities we got to go back to our own private dairy farm and spend the night! I have never had the experience of waking up to cows mooing in my backyard and I would love to live there if I could. She also has a nice fireplace in the kitchen and dining room area. I have never had the experience but we got to burn Peat Moss in the fireplace! It is long-lasting and it comes from the bog. When we arrived we had the compressed Peat Moss and it burned very well. Margaret was apologetic because the Peat Moss that we would have burned from the bog was not yet harvested! Staying there was truly an extra special experience. We are Airbnb hosts also in Naples, Florida USA. Margaret is under market in terms of pricing. She should raise her rates significantly because the experience is magical! WE LOVED IT! Enjoy it if you get to go there. Love, David, Ginger, Ava and Sydney Thompson Naples, Florida USA
