Located 45 minutes from area beaches and Charleston, SC and only 15 minutes from Historic Georgetown, SC. The retreat is in the Sampit Community of Georgetown County, SC.... part of the Gullah Geechee Corridor, which was land given to the freed slaves after the Civil War. The property borders a 1,000 acre pine forest with a low-country, savannah grassland. Lots of wildlife, small fish pond and was used by the owners for a secluded, private retreat.

The space

Welcome to Carrie Oak Retreat! Chris and I are please to share our retreat with our airbnb guests...however it is not suitable for children and your group must be over 21. The 3 bedrooms and private bath is nicely sun-lit in the mornings and has views of the pond. The queen-size bed is firm but comfy and the room is nicely furnished. One bedroom has 2 firm standard twin mattresses the other has 2 twin XL memory foam mattresses. The bath is clean with a shower and tub. Shared living room with reading area and pool table. The large kitchen and open dining area has a breakfast bar. The den area has internet wi-fi, TVs, stereo and fireplace. The space is sunny in the afternoon with a small deck to enjoy the sunsets.
A Brief History:
Chris and I are pleased to share our woodland nature retreat with our airbnb guests! We have done some renovations due to some recent storms to our area this past year. We have added a new metal roof and have done property improvements to make this retreat nicer for our guests. I bought this property 10 years ago as a getaway from our hectic life style and to offer the retreat to our family and friends. We hope you will enjoy the solitude and peace this retreat offers. The retreat is named after Miss Carrie who was my friend's mother. The huge oak tree beside the house is also named for her. There was an old homestead on the property before the home was here and you can still see the the containment area where the pigs were kept near the old oak tree. We feed the deer behind the house and the fish in the pond. We don't hunt, but the 1,000 acres behind the house is used for hunting. We see a lot of wildlife on the property and we still pay taxes on an "old praise church" that borders the retreat. When we bought the property, there was no city water. We had a well and it was located at the end of a dirt road .The property is now at the end of a paved road and has city water. Our neighbors are the relatives of Mr. Wilson, who is Carrie's son. He used to farm the area, but his health won't allow him to that now. We have had bankers, nurses, teachers, hunters and fishermen as guests stay at our home. But most of all, we have enjoyed being the caretakers of this special place for our family and hope you will enjoy it as much as we have, too!

Guest access

The home borders a 1,000 acre pine forest with an open grassland in the back of the house. Next to the house is a beautiful, huge oak with Spanish moss and in the front is a small fish pond. The property is secluded and gated with plenty of parking for cars or boats. Electric, water hookup and
wi-fi available for campers or RV.

Interaction with guests

We will be available if needed but don't always stay on the property over night.

Other things to note

We do our best to keep the retreat clean and bug free however because of our mild winters we are not bug proof. We spray for bugs in and around the home and provide bug spray to our guests. The retreat is in the middle of a wooded area if you are scared of mosquitoes, other bugs or have problems with allergies due to pollen this retreat may not suit you needs. The home does have wi-fi internet access. We also get a few over the air tv stations and cell phone signals are good.
