We were looking for seclusion. A weekend away from it all. Somewhere to relax and recharge after what was an undoubtedly hectic few weeks.
What we found was Henk and Hans' cabin in the woods. It couldn't have been more perfect.
We arrived on Friday night to a roaring fire, a delicious (and so well needed) bottle of red wine and a tiny peace of isolated heaven.
The cabin itself was beautifully proportioned and classically decorated, (think ski chalet meets hunting lodge). If you have forgotten your book for the weekend, there is a wonderful collection to borrow from.
There is more than enough space for a cozy weekend for two couples or more or a small family. Luckily on this occasion, it was just us two, which was super perfect.
The kitchen had everything we could possibly imagine - we managed to cook some very delicious meals there over the weekend. And the bathroom was more than comfortable.
But we didn't really appreciate the true show-piece of the cabin until the morning, when we were woken by birds and surrounded by fields and forests. If you are looking for a weekend away from it all or a romantic getaway .... this is your place!
We woke to fresh eggs (provided by Henk and Hans' courtesy of their chickens) and delicious Nespresso coffee, which we enjoyed in the Spring sun on the veranda.
After talking one of the many suggested walking maps, we got out and enjoyed the many nature trails, stunning antique houses, reservoirs and animals. There is so much to do in this area that we could have easily stayed a lot longer than two nights.
We spent Saturday night curled up on a warm sofa staring into another log fire, and we didn't even make it into the amazing on-site sauna! (Next time!) The whole experience was rejuvenating, relaxing and incredibly peaceful.
We couldn't have wished for a more perfect location to stay, more welcoming hosts and a more peaceful weekend.
Thank you so much Henk and Hans - we will be back very soon!
