Our charming c. 1918 Sears cottage is a two minute walk to Chatham's main street where you'll find world class coffee shops, restaurants and shopping.

Original woodwork, leaded glass windows, and a claw foot tub add authentic cozy charm; large south facing windows let in tons of sunshine. A perfect spot to get away from the busy city life and unwind, or use the house as a home base to explore all the Hudson Valley has to offer. We can't wait for you to enjoy the cottage as much as we have!

The space

Our cottage is small and cozy; a perfect amount of space for those looking for a quick retreat from busy life; a space without pretense that you can feel nestled in and relaxed.

Both bedrooms feature new queen mattresses with high thread count linens and les indiennes curtains.

Enter our home through the cottage gate and our back door, into our kitchen. All the doors in our home still use skeleton keys, and many original details like leaded glass windows, inlaid mother of pearl push button light switches and gorgeous wood molding and trim. The kitchen has all the essentials for cooking and we will even deliver fresh eggs from our farm for breakfast. Locally roasted fresh coffee, tea, will be provided for you to make on your own.

The kitchen leads to the back deck and fenced in yard where you can easily keep your eye on your children or your pet from the house. A great shady place to hang out in the summer!

Dining room has a table that can expand to seat 6. Living room has a tv with basic network television. Half bath on the first floor.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms each with cozy queen sized beds, comfortable pillows and fabulous sheets. The front bedroom has two closets and a bureau. The back bedroom we've kept minimal-- has just a dreamy new queen bed with a skylight to gaze out at the beautiful butternut tree above. There are side tables. We can move a bureau in if you would like. AC units in both upstairs bedrooms in summer.

Full bath on top floor with tub shower combo. The clawfoot tub is original to the house and is nice for a soak.

The front porch and back garden deck are amazing places to lounge in the summer-- when warm weather hits both will be furnished with teak deck chairs with cushions and the front porch will have couch and other seating areas. Its my favorite place to curl up with a coffee in the morning, the sun hits the porch perfectly.

The house has wifi and great cell service. please note we don't have a land line, a smart tv or cable tv. If you are looking for the perfect luxury of the Hamptons our home wont be the best fit; If you're looking to unplug a bit from the hustle in a cozy and authentic cottage--this is a great place for you!!

Guest access

You have access to our whole house and fenced in yard, basement for laundry. Our garage is locked and one room in basement for some of our belongings.

Interaction with guests

My husband and I live ten minutes away on our farm in Austerlitz. We are available for any questions. I have worked in the hospitality industry and find most people like to have their privacy. We are hands on only as much as you want us to be!

Other things to note

This beautiful town of ours has an active train schedule. It's a cool part of our long history. Many people love the sound of trains, some don't. If you feel it might disturb your sleep please bring ear plugs. Any house will hear the train in our village-- the tracks are down the road from us not directly behind us.

Please be aware that our Butternut Tree drops nuts in October. Park half way up the drive way to stay out of the nut zone! There are orange poles on the side of the driveway.

Quiet hours after 10pm. Our neighborhood is residential. We ask that you show our home respect and our neighbors too. That means no parties, no events, no incessant barking doggie, no loud music in summer. In order for us to provide our place as an option for travelers on AIRBNB we must maintain good relationships with our neighbors. It's a small town after all! :)Thank you!!

Chatham is a train town, trains go through town often. They blow their horns through crossings. Including through the night. Just a heads up in case you want to bring ear plugs, but most people don't find it disruptive.

We know what it's like to find a great place to stay with our dog, it's hard! Bring your doggie. Just do us a favor and kennel your dog when you leave the dog alone. If at all possible please keep your pup off the furniture. ONLY ONE DOG allowed in the home at any time.

The house has a large fenced in yard for your pup. The fence is secure but I can't guarantee that your dog wont find a way out! Please supervise your animal when they are in our yard.

CHILD SAFETY: the top of the stairs cannot be gated. Your little one will need adult supervision if they are not safely navigating stairs yet. Also be aware that we have blinds on the bottom windows.

Thank you!!!

You must also acknowledge
Must climb stairs - small flight to second floor bedrooms
Potential for noise - Train passes through Chatham and sounds it's horn at crossings. It's a way of life here in the village!

Jennifer's house is so comfortable, with a cozy bed, in a quiet, peaceful town. It's also walking distance to good coffee and restaurants and cute shops. We stayed here for a long weekend for a friend's wedding and it was perfect.

We spent three weeks here visiting family. We loved this house!! And so did our pup! All the rooms are pretty big. The house was very open and the air flowed very well through the house. We did need the air conditioner several nights but that wasn't a problem. I think we ate out on the deck every night except for a couple. The shower head is great!! The town of Chatham is charming and quaint just as Jenn said. We went to all of her recommendations and they were spot on! One other recommendation is the apple cider donuts from Golden Harvest Farms! Delicious!! There were several Farmer's Markets in the area that we also went to. Those are always fun!! We did several day trips from Chatham. Vermont is only about a 2 hour drive. The leaves were just starting to turn in Vermont. I'm sure in a couple of weeks the whole area will be full of color! We were not bothered at all by the trains going through Chatham. My husband did say he heard one go through a couple of times during the night but I didn't at all. Jenn is the perfect host! She answered all our questions in a timely manner! We didn't want to leave and would definitely come back here!

We stayed here for a wedding weekend that was in the town over, Ghent. Jen was VERY helpful before and during our stay. She is really quick to respond and had a lot of suggestions and answers for my sometimes ridiculous requests. We were two couples and two dogs and fit very comfortably in the house. The pictures definitely don't do this home justice. It's really cute and nicely decorated and spacious for four people. The backyard is huge and completely fenced in which was perfect for our pups. We had to be gone for a majority of Saturday and when I asked her if she had a dog walker we could use for that day she offered to come over and let the dogs out and feed them which was more than I could have expected from an Airbnb host. As I said before, the house was amazing, but having such an accommodating host really made our stay effortless. The town is quaint, with some cute coffee shops and a brewery but not too much else going on in the town. The street is mostly quiet and walking distance to the town but there is no side walk on the street so be careful walking! I only had two small cons during our whole trip: -the backyard is very buggy, it was almost unbearable to be out there. I'm not sure if this is peaked during the time we stayed here (August) or it's the town/location. I'd definitely recommend bringing bug spray and a citronella candle if you want to hang out outside. -the train is very loud, and at all hours of the day/night. That being said, it doesn't go by too often, but when it does they lay on the horn. At my home, I also live near the train tracks, so I was expecting it to just be loud because the train was going by and only during commuter times, but this was a freight train, and there aren't quiet hours for this train, it'll lay on the horn even at 3 AM. But again, like I said, it doesn't happen too often during the day/night. Overall, if I came back to the area, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, it was a great experience!

We greatly enjoyed our stay! Jennifer was extremely responsive to our questions and concerns, and went out of her way to make sure we felt comfortable and welcome. The house is lovely, clean, and in a great location right near downtown. Overall, we highly recommend!!

This is a perfect place to stay, especially for your dogs. Such kind and thoughtful owners. We loved, loved, sitting out on the deck for our meals, (even our take outs) as we were outside. The trains never ever bothered us. My God, we live in Manhattan with 8 million people and noise. The tub delightful for a bath. If you want shi shi pu pu, go to the Hamptons. You do not need a car if you just want a weekend of R&R. It is quiet, serene and will give yourself a chance to check in. That being said, it is a great location, if you want to check the area out.

Farmers at heart, my husband Chris and I fulfilled a dream and bought the Schober family homestead est. in 1940. Raising chickens, growing our food and enjoying all our incredible area has to offer is an amazing way of life. After years in a high stress job as a literary agent, I am now a literary coach, and my husband Chris builds custom furniture in his woodshop, here at Taylor Hollow Farm. We love travel, our pit bull Maude and chillin with our chickens and a cocktail on the back 40. Life at the farm is far from perfect but we like it that way-- raw beauty, wild and rooted.
