Cluain Beag is situated on the rising slopes of Slieve Mish half way along The Dingle Peninsula. A perfect retreat for those who want to get away from it all. The views are stunning and the large garden, although some of it a little wild, has plenty of room for visiting dogs and children, who are welcome. The house is simply furnished and has an open fire in the sitting room and the well equipped spacious kitchen, with a range, is the hub of the house.

The space

The kitchen has a large table which can be extended to seat 8 people quite comfortably. The range is very efficient and in addition to cooking it also heats the water and the radiators. There is also a combination microwave which does just about everything and there's a washer/dryer. The sitting room has two sofa's, which it could be said have seen better days but they are comfy, there is a TV, plenty of books, games and oodles of maps and information books and, of course, the open fire. All the bedrooms are freshly painted and beds are comfortable. Bathroom has an electric shower and bath. There are even two dog beds available which your pets are welcome to use. As the house is frequented by our own dogs and visiting dogs, forgive us if the odd dog hair is over looked also should you be allergic to pet hair this may not be the right place for you. Occasionally asthma sufferers can also have problems possibly due to the abundance of Fuscia. It is important to point out that this is a very rural location and nature is never very far away. The house is always meticulously cleaned before the arrival of guests so please don't think that the presence of spiders and their webs suggests otherwise, cobwebs can appear overnight and on wet days its hard to prevent mud from being trodden into the hallway. However, these minor faults are more than made up for by the stunning views and for star gazers on clear nights you will be delighted to see constellations rarely visible, but up here with little light pollution you can see them all, in fact a star has been officially named named Ballinahunt by one of our guest! Welcome to the Slieve Mish!

Guest access

The entire house and garden are all part of the let.

Interaction with guests

As This is our second home we will not be there to welcome you. However, our lovely friend in the village will be happy to answer questions and help out if needed. His phone number is in the "house book"

Other things to note

Please note that for some reason we can't establish asthma suffers have problems with our location.

We had such a lovely time here. It was perfect for our family of 2 kids and 2 dogs. It was a real treat to have the range in the kitchen to cook on and it kept the kitchen so cosy. The beds were super comfy and the place was spotless for us when we arrived. It's a little off the beaten track but this only added to its charm in our opinion. We had some brilliant walks on stunning Inch beach which is very close by and we had some lovely meals in Dingle. We are looking forward to coming back here again.

Karen's cottage was the best remote retreat I could have hoped for. It was wonderful to try the countryside lifestyle for a few days. I learnt how to operate a range and brushed up on my fire making skills. After long days of exploring the bay of Dingle, it was a joy to come back to Cluan Baig and get warm in the cosy living room. The whole house is absolutely charming and I loved seeing blankets of fields from my bedroom window first thing in the morning. I didn't get a chance to meet Karen but she sounded lovely and was always very helpful via text. Her neighbour Noirin gave us the warmest welcome and all the explanation we needed to get settled in the house. If you dont mind being remote and not getting much of a phone service, this is the perfect place to get away from everything. It also makes a perfect base to travel around the Dingle peninsula. Would highly recommend!

This house is all as described and more. It provided us with fantastic views, privacy, seclusion and at the same time close enough to all we wanted to go and see. Inch beech is very close and Dingle is only a short spin away. The views from the house first thing in the morning on a clear day are breathtaking. The house was very clean and was looked after very well. It is a large house and easily accommodated the seven of us. We would recommend this house to our friends if they are looking for a place to stay in that area.

Absolutely amazing location for this rustic Kerry house. The range was a real treat to cook with! It really heats the house and makes plenty of hot water. Close to lots of activities both indoor and outdoor but your own car is a must! We really had a lovely family holiday. The only downside was one of our group suffering with his ashma as the house is a little dusty. On the other hand I don't have ashma and I had no problems!

Good place for travellers who seek a quiet place and don't need a sterile place. Karen is a very friendly person and did take good care of a local welcome.

I am an actor living mainly in the UK..my husband Rio, is a writer and wrote for Ballykisangel among other series. He is. mother was from Kilkenny. This is our very simple home in Ireland which we both love very much and have hundreds of happy memories of our son growing up here and of all our beautiful dogs who loved the space, the views and the wonderful beaches.
