My place is situated on the edge of this picturesque village green with duck pond and maypole. 20 minutes from York and Harrogate. You’ll love Garden Cottage because of its view over the beautiful garden. The village has great country walks and good access including rail to York and surrounding towns. The Cottage has a super king comfy bed, the kitchen has fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Excellent pub within 2 minutes walk.

The space

I provide Bread, Butter and Milk in the fridge and Wheetabix, Cornflakes, jams and honey, tea, coffee and sugar. I would ask my guests to e mail their preference for brown or white bread when booking.

Guest access

The Cottage is yours and has a small patio area outside, you are welcome to use. We have a meadow field of 3 acres which you are welcome to stroll through.

Interaction with guests

I am very conscious that my guests are on holiday and want some peace and quiet. I am happy to help in any way but will not intrude. I say to my guests please feel free to contact me either by text and a knock on the door. It is what is convenient for them./

Other things to note

There are some beautiful walks and you can stroll through the Priory Gates and walk down to the river. I have left some little brochures with walks in Garden Cottage.

The cottage was exactly as described, warm, cosy and homely and it had everything we needed. A lovely, quiet village and only a 10 minute train ride away from York. Gillian is a great host and we received a lovely welcome on arrival, would definitely recommend staying here.

Garden Cottage is so beautiful and Gillian is a fantastic host. The pub in Nun Monkton serves the most amazing food and the staff are so friendly. Really can't rate our stay high enough. We just loved everything about it and hope to visit again.

Perfectly situated between York and Harrogate in a quintessential english village. Local pub with excellent food. Lovely cottage set in a beautiful garden with as much privacy as you want, but Gillian on hand with suggestions and recommendations when needed. Large comfortable bed. Perfect.

Awesome two nights at Garden Cottage. Amazing standard of accommodation, excellent value for money. Gillian was a welcoming host without being intrusive. Gave us the most warmest of welcomes making us feel completely at home. Gave us the necessary general and practical information for our stay in the cottage along with information of things of interest and things in the local area for us to do. Provided us with train timetable which we made use of and had a wonderful day in Harrogate (approximately 20 minutes journey costing £9.00 return for two) with a visit to the famous Betty's Tea Rooms. Gillian reserved us a table at The Alice Hawthorn which is 2 minutes away for our first evening and, we were that impressed and had such an excellent meal we reserved a table ourselves for the second evening. Superb hostess and shall definitely be returning.

Gillian is a charming host, who greeted me and showed me around and then didn’t intrude. The accommodation is compact and furnished to a high standard with nice touches. There’s a microwave but no cooker. The location in the host’s garden is quite and the village is also away from main roads. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat, away from the crowds but within easy reach of Harrogate and York, then you’d struggle to find better

Adorable village, lovely space, very helpful host. The bed was very comfortable, everything was lovely and clean and the decor was very tasteful. The local pub (5 minute walk away through super sweet village with cows grazing on the common) was wonderful, with great beers and locally sourced food. Wonderful walk along the river as well. Overall a really nice stay.

This place was lovely, really cute and rustic! We drove there so just drove into the city each day which was easy enough, there are some cheap all day car parks. There's also a local park and ride if you prefer.
