My place is situated on the edge of this picturesque village green with duck pond and maypole. 20 minutes from York and Harrogate. You’ll love Garden Cottage because of its view over the beautiful garden. The village has great country walks and good access including rail to York and surrounding towns. The Cottage has a super king comfy bed, the kitchen has fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Excellent pub within 2 minutes walk.

The space

I provide Bread, Butter and Milk in the fridge and Wheetabix, Cornflakes, jams and honey, tea, coffee and sugar. I would ask my guests to e mail their preference for brown or white bread when booking.

Guest access

The Cottage is yours and has a small patio area outside, you are welcome to use. We have a meadow field of 3 acres which you are welcome to stroll through.

Interaction with guests

I am very conscious that my guests are on holiday and want some peace and quiet. I am happy to help in any way but will not intrude. I say to my guests please feel free to contact me either by text and a knock on the door. It is what is convenient for them./

Other things to note

There are some beautiful walks and you can stroll through the Priory Gates and walk down to the river. I have left some little brochures with walks in Garden Cottage.

This place was lovely, really cute and rustic! We drove there so just drove into the city each day which was easy enough, there are some cheap all day car parks. There's also a local park and ride if you prefer.

Garden Cottage is an absolutely lovely place for a relaxing weekend. The entire cottage is decorated and equipped to an extremely high standard, and it was a real pleasure to relax here. Nun Monkton is a beautiful village with no through traffic, a beautiful village green and historic church. There is also a fabulous pub, the Alice Hawthorn, that serves really excellent food. We spent our first afternoon and evening in the village, and on the second day caught the train to York. Gillian was a wonderful host, always available if we needed anything, and she really made our trip special. She has a clear passion for hosting, and the cottage is testament to this effort. A real gem!

The garden cottage was as lovely as it looked on the website! It was beautifully presented, clean, warm and very cozy. It was like a home from home and we wanted for nothing during our 2 night stay. Gillian had very kindly left a card and gift for my boyfriend’s birthday, which was a nice surprise and very gratefully received! The Alice Hawthorn was superb for a late Sunday lunch but due to the incoming storm that afternoon, we didn’t manage any of the suggested walks but instead spent the afternoon lazing cozily in the cottage, which was just perfect! Many thanks again Gillian, we hope to return one day soon xx ps: almost forgot to mention the incredibly comfy and absolutely huge bed, wonderfully comfortable!!

Response from Gillian:
Thank you Sharon for your lovely review which is so appreciated. I think it is so important to give guests as much privacy as possible and I am conscious of not being an over keen host! in that I leave my guests alone and am pleased to help if they contact me. Thank you again. Gillian x

We only stayed one night in Gillian's cottage, but it was lovely. It would have been nice to stay longer to really enjoy the garden and village. The cottage is separate from the main house, and the garden is beautiful. Nun Monkton is a lovely little village, and arriving there feels like you are stepping back in time.

A great stay in a very well appointed cottage in a beautiful village. Gillian was most kind and provided everything we needed - and more.

Gillian's Garden Cottage is just as pretty as in her photographs, and the garden is beautiful, with table and chairs outside when the sun shines. A very comfortable super kingsize bed is a real treat. Everything you should need is supplied. A cosy cottage for any time of year, and it is so well placed for visits to York and Harrogate. You will find the delightful Alice Hawthorn Inn just two minutes walk from the cottage, serving very high standard fare at reasonable cost. We were sorry not to be able to stay for longer. Next time!

Gillian is a lovely host - welcoming but not intrusive. We were pleasantly surprised how secluded and private Garden cottage is - surrounded by the most beautiful & well kept gardens. Lovely comfy bed & everything you need!
