very original beautiful setting...
Liesje Vanneste grew up in the region of Antwerp (Belgium). In 1996 she and her now ex-husband left for Portugal with their truck loaded with 2 horses, 2 dogs, some chickens and their tipi setting out for a new challenge, a new life. After visiting friends in the French Pyrenees, one of their sheep came along.
When they arrived in Ervedal da Beira, in the center of Portugal, they (together with friend Jan and his family who lived there already for some years) decided to start a biological agricultural project. Grow vegetables, guarding sheep and goats, making cheese, wine, jams … The horses helped them ploughing the land and because they also could borrow two Portuguese horses, they could guide tourists through the beautiful neighborhood and had a good time. But after half a year they decided to separate from their friends. Moved 5 times in 3 years but always in the same region. Wherever they went, they guided people on the horses. Thanks to the mobile phone, people always could reach them. Finally they settled in Midões. A very beautiful and historical village nearby Tábua.
Now Liesje lives here together with her love João... they still organize horse riding along the most beautiful region of Portugal and host visitors in their enchanting guest houses on Quinta da Alegria...
Now they also organize healthy horse riding courses, natural horsemanship courses and rent mountainbikes.
João grew up in Alcantarilha-Algarve and Lisbon City. Always dreaming of setting up a farm in the Alentejo...He usualy worked as IT Manager and studies Geography....
Then he met Liesje and everything changed...
He is now living in Quinta da Alegria and he is very happy sharing his life with Liesje...
Liesje and João take care of the farm, and everything that is included, with heart and soul. The two of them is your guide on the rides and Liesje does the massages. Both are leading persons on foot when you are an inexperienced rider.
Since 1996 we organise rides through The Center of Portugal. In the beginning we just had Maxim and Trudy. This was the beginning. There came more horses and more paths, mountainbikes to rent, massages ,another guesthouse...
For all the other sport activities we work together with colleagues like, Leen Van Melle for the walking, Rob Horree for the Guided MTB tours and "Rock and River" for the kayaking and climbing activities.
