About this listing

Sample the 'off grid' life and get back to nature in your own self contained yurt on a Permaculture smallholding! There's solar lights and a composting toilet nearby but not that much more... just the stars to see at night and the dragonflies to watch on the pond outside the front door and of course a comfy bed too.

We are just 15 minutes from Knock International Airport, an hour from Galway, an hour from Westport and an hour from Sligo.

The space

The space is 6m yurt, simply furnished with a double and a single bed, which can also be arranged as 3 single beds if needed. There is an outside seating area, and also table and chairs inside the yurt too.

We are set just on the edge of a bog in the wild countryside of County Mayo, where you can walk and we also have bicycles that you can borrow to explore the surrounding lanes. Although we are just 3 miles from the train station and town we are deep in the quiet, peaceful countryside.

Guest access

Guests have access to a nearby composting toilet and there is a camp kitchen in the yurt (one gas ring). There is no indoor shower or bath facilities. Bathing can be described as 'adventurous' and involves a kettle.

There is no electricity or wifi to the yurt but we can charge things for you at the cottage if needed :-)

Other things to note

We have lots of animals; chickens, guinea fowl, ducks, a nanny goat and her kids, a dog and 3 cats... and 2 hives of bees.

We can offer you fresh organic eggs and seasonal greens and berries for your stay. We can also offer you breakfast if you want it!

We are very sorry but as there is a large pond next to the door we don't think the place is suitable for small children, and to maintain the peace and safety of all our animals only quiet, calm, well behaved dogs kept under close control can be accommodated. Please message us before booking if you wish to bring a dog.

What an experience definitely a must do if you want to get back to basic and forget about the world. So quite and calming and a nice little farm vibe with the animals too. For anyone looking for an adventure this is it

Beautiful scenic stay in Claire's yurt. An experience worth doing. Claire was attentive and incredibly friendly. Ended the few days with an amazing sunset walk with Erin the dog and the 3 goats. Beautiful.

Claire's yert is a fantastic place to stay. We sadly only had one night but could have stayed longer as there was so much to see. The yert is beautiful and comfy and Clare was helpful at every step of the way. Ballyhaunis seems to be a well worth a visit too. Thank you for your hospitality Clare!

Exceeded expectations! The yurt is spacious, comfortable and thoughtfully decorated - like we were living among fairies! We got beautiful pictures by the pond (right outside the door of the yurt), enjoyed tea and coffee in the morning (would recommend the breakfast offered by Claire - delicious crispy bacon, organic eggs, homemade bread and the best homemade honey you’ve ever tasted!) and had a fabulous walk in the surrounding bogland. Claire was helpful in every way and really friendly and welcoming - good chats to be had! The animals (ducks, goats, cats and Erin the dog) added to the rustic countryside experience too. A fabulous getaway!

Loved it, quite, rugged wilderness just 2h from the chaos & noise of the big city. Would like to come back & try some of that organic honey. Lovely dog, horses, birds & goats around. Best Irish sunset ever!

Tir na nOg is a delightfully magical place! Book this AirBnB gem in the Irish countryside, in the Land of the Youth, and leave it all behind! Claire and her pup went out of their way to be sure my cousin and I had everything we needed. The yurt is cozy with nicely cushioned beds, warm blankets, a kettle, basic cookware, and soft lighting. Our one cool rainy night was a dry delight and passed dreamily with the warmth of a hot water bottle and glass of wine! The facilities (a charming out-house and wash basin) were pleasant to use and well kept. We had plenty of room in and outside of the yurt. Claire was kind enough to take us for a stroll through the bog, introduce us to her precious goats and neigh-boring horses, and share her space and story of permaculture and reclaiming an old plastered-over stone cottage. You'll find the beauty in the details at Claire's and the land surrounding by (natural) design! I look forward to visiting Claire in Tir na nOg again soon! She's an inspiration to all. P.S. Rain, mud, or hiking boots are encouraged! Bring the serenity of Tir na nOg home with you and purchase some of the treats on offer; I've been enjoying the small satchel of wild lavender harvested by Claire's mother!
