A charming country villa one hour from Paris by car or train. It has four bedrooms and a giant semi-finished attic. The house has been fully renovated with a great new kitchen and bathrooms and is tastefully furnished with antiques and ethnic art. The huge yard and its meadows lead directly to a beautiful village park with river walks, playgrounds and tennis courts. Restaurants, bakeries and a supermarket are easy walking distance and swimming, biking, fishing, and a train station are nearby.
This house combines everything we were looking for in a French country house, which may also correspond to your needs and expectations. It is well set up, with lots of space and light and a huge, somewhat wild yard with fruit and nut trees, berries, chickens, and more. It is somewhat unique in style, combining "gingerbread" and art nouveau elements with traditional French country style.
Chateau Landon is only one hour by car from Paris and is reachable by train to the neighboring village five minutes away. It is on the edge of an agricultural plain that goes into the valley of the Loing, a beautiful river good for swimming and fishing, which is bordered by a canal that is great for biking. Various forests are nearby and, since the stones of Chateau Landon were used to build most of the monuments in Paris, there are numerous small lakes left over from the quarries (very rare near Paris), including one with a public beach. Many neighboring villages, some of which were home to the impressionist painters, have interesting sites, and travel further south to castles, vineyards etc is easy. The village itself is over 2000 years old (it was besieged by Julius Caesar!) and has a number of interesting buildings, as well as restaurants, bakeries and other amenities (rare in many villages).
The 7000m2 yard goes directly to a 10 hectare village park and nature preserve, with public tennis courts, children's play areas and nature trails along the Fusain river and canal.
You have access to the entire house and yard.
Interaction with guests
Since we also have an apartment in Paris we are generally available when needed.
Other things to note
Important: Please be aware that there are three full, traditional bedrooms on the first floor, and another room that can be used as a bedroom in the basement (no picture), as well as a double convertible sofa in the living room.
The 80m2 attic, with three additional beds, is heated but not insulated, so not useable as a bedroom if nighttime temperatures drop below about 8 degrees. So in summer months the house could sleep 14 or even more, but in winter only 10 if the basement and living room are also used.
We welcome families with children, but with three long staircases and numerous breakable objects, small or very active children would have to be closely supervised.
