About this listing

Ideal for holiday, quick break away, romance or a quiet relaxing retreat to write or catch up on that study. Only 35 mins from Shannon and within an hour of Cliffs of Moher, Burren national park, Lough Derg and Galway. Many historic sights, walking trails, lakes, horse riding, kayaking, traditional music and good pub food nearby. Walk in nature, breath clean air, drink spring water and stay cosy by wood burning stove at night. The kitchen is well equipped. Bed linen/towels/shower gel provided

The space

The cottage is described as rustic but very comfortable. It is warm and quiet making it ideal for rest, writing, study and many other projects.
It is open plan with a loft space bedroom; please take note of the rustic but securely fixed wooden ladder as seen in the photos. There is also a single bed in main room and extra pull out beds if needed. I also have a double room sometimes available in my house next door.
The bathroom is a separate room with shower, toilet, hand basin with towels provided. Please note that the shower is is not a power shower.
The kitchen with spring water on tap is in the main room. Complimentary tea, coffee, oil, the usual condiments, if anything is missing just ask. Organic seasonal vegetables can be bought on a stall just across the road, it works on trust and you just put the money in the box. If you are arriving late in the day with no time for a grocery shop, you can email me a list of items and I will be happy to pick up what you need.
Come home after a days adventure to a relaxing quiet space with a warm fire from a solid fuel wood burner, home cook your meal, grab a take away in Tulla town or head up to Feakle town for a Guinness stew or fresh fish dinner.
Washing machine and dryer is available on request but not included in the price, again you just put the money in the box by machines.
I live beside the cottage where I'm available for help and advice and while I respect your space, you also have the comfort of knowing that you are not totally alone on this beautiful and peaceful hillside. My work includes designing and handcrafting landscape inspired shawls and other accessories which guests have a 15% discount.

During the low season this cottage is available long term for an agreed price. Do contact me for more information.

Guest access

Guests have access to the garden, walks in the nearby area and on request my Studio. There is also a double room available in my home which is especially good as an overflow for when more than 3 friends or family wish to book the cottage. www.airbnb.ie/322922

Interaction with guests

I have traveled extensively so naturally I enjoy meeting and interacting with people but I also respect their privacy, coming into your space only when invited or on winter days when you are out having adventure I will light the stove before you arrive home. This service is only available when I'm at home myself. The new stove is simple to use and those who have not much experience do learn quickly. Loan travelers have the comfort of knowing that they are not entirely alone, on this peaceful hillside and when I'm away my friend and neighbour is available to help you out if needed.
When available I enjoy spending a day out with guests or share an evening meal but mostly it is your holiday to take the day and weather as you find it!

Other things to note

I unfortunately had to cancel 2 guests this year but they were both within 12 hours of booking via Instant book, there was a cross over from another site which is why I have now turned off Instant book.
If you are arriving late in the day with no time for a grocery shop, you can email me a list of items in advance.
There is no TV.
The washer/dryer facility is not included in your stay but for those who wish to use it there is a small fee.
Please read the Cottage manual.....

After a good drive from Dublin Airport with our rental car we arrived in Tulla to do some grocery shopping. With directions from Stephanie we then found the cottage without a problem. The house is set at a beautiful scene, with nice roads to take evening walks on. We absolutely loved staying at the cottage, and would have gladly stayed a couple days more! The bed was very comfy and fine for the two of us. The kitchen well equipped and we cooked our dinners multiple times at the cottage. The fireplace made the house warm with lovely heat from the turf/peat of which Stephanie made sure we had enough. From Feakle/Tulla a lot of amazing places to visit are nearby - we would really recommend The Burren and of course The Cliffs of Moher. If you do the Burren by day and the Cliffs after 6 p.m.... you will have an amazing day. Also close by is the Quin Abbey, which we loved. Not touristy at all, but so nice to walk around and feel the history beneath your feet ;-). All in all we had a great week in Feakle thanks to Stephanie and her cute cats and would love to come back again to explore Ireland a bit more!

Thank you Jantine for taking the time to write an informative review. I would love to welcome you both back for some more non touristy discoveries and naturally Connemara! ;)

Stephanie's little cottage is a good location for those who want to explore Clare County but also have a place to retreat and relax. The limited space has been used cleverly (e.g. there's a rack that you can let down from the ceiling to hang your damp clothes on) and the kitchen is equipped with everything you need if you want to cook. We were in the area for the Fleadh Nua festival and had two great evenings at Cruises Bar with traditional music sessions. Stephanie was a great host; always there when we needed her, and she even made us some scones... a nice surprise upon our arrival!

This cozy little cottage is just perfect. Roomie, well equipped and in such a beautiful location. Plan on short showers but also expect to be comfortable during your stay. Stephanie, the hostess, is wonderful. Kind, helpful, and personable. We loved our time spent here!

Response from Stephanie:
It was necessary for me to cancel this Instant booking within hours of it being booked because a longer stay came in at the same time from another source. I hope that I get to meet Katia another time.....

If you are looking for a secluded bolthole to write (or in my case edit) your novel, then this is the place! I cocooned myself for four days and three nights in this lovely cottage, warmed by the stove and plentiful supply of logs, safe and secure in the knowledge that Stephanie, my welcoming host, was next door. Perfect.

A born wanderer from Dublin I settled in Clare to raise my children and immerse myself in rural life and textiles. I’ve enjoyed some world travel and today I love to wander from France to Ireland and back again, walking hills and coastal paths gathering inspiration for my work and enjoying locally produced organic food, and a good read by the fire at night. I also very much enjoy welcoming people to both my homes and offering help or advice on places to visit, allowing you your space as I appreciate mine.
