We named our B&B The Fig Tree because of the 25 year old Fig Tree in the front yard. Neighbors and their kids and dogs sit on the bench on the corner of the lot to rest and chat.
We have lived here for 26 years. Many things have changed, but it is still a neighborhood of small, locally owned businesses. The neighborhood has been around long enough to benefit from the time when Parks were planned as part of neighborhoods.
Rest in a comfortable bed, enjoy our home and explore!

Where you’ll be

Portland, Oregon, United States

We love our neighborhood. Close to the well known Division Street, public transportation and many rental bike stations.
But we like to point out the restaurants, coffee shops, nurseries and parks that are within blocks of us. There is a great Mexican Food Restaurant, Roccio's at the end of our block. Next to that is reFRESH serving espresso, cheese, and wine. Yoki's next door is a well known sushi restaurant. Then there is C Bar known for good food and an amazing collection of vintage arcade games. Anyone remember pin ball?
Around the corner from Roccio's is a barbershop, complete with barber pole, called Cowlicks.
On the north side of the street is an old neighborhood tavern called Ship Ahoy. It is an old SE Portland tavern.
Further up Gladstone on the north side between 37th and 39th is a wonderful nursery called Birds and Bees. Just next door is Kennelworth House Coffee. Great coffee but also a wonderful collection of vinyl music and an old stereo record player.
Just past there is The Stone Pub, a sports bar and good pub food. Gladstone Pizza, only opened in the evening is just a bit down the block. Great pizza and nice folks.
Across the street and on the corner of Caesar Chavez Blvd. and Holgate is a restaurant that started as a food cart, it is called Shut Up and Eat. Portions are generous and food is good.
Hopworks is a local brewery also known for good food. It is on Powell Blvd.
Powell Park goes from 26th to 23rd and Powell. Creston Park is from 42nd and Powell for several blocks east and south. Our favorite park is Kennelworth Park on Holgate between 34th and 32nd. We often walk through the park then south through the neighborhoods to get to Reed College and the wonderful Reed Canyon a delightful nature walk. Which is just north of Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, a delightful garden which offers free admission on Tuesdays.
Further down Holgate on 28th Ave you find another small independent coffee shop called Marigold Coffee. On the other end of the building is another delightful, locally owned restaurant called Bird and Bear.
If you go another 2 blocks to 26th on the south side of Holgate you find Memory Lane which is a collection of vintage cars, for sale but also opened to those who want to look and appreciate. In the same complex is a diner called Beez Holgate Station. Good diner food.
So if I haven't lost you by know you may notice that SE Portland is made up of many smaller neighborhoods. Hawthorne and Division are the best known, but there are many other jewels just waiting for a curious visitor to explore.
