Pen Beili Cottage (originally built in 1740) is set in lovely countryside, yet only 30 minutes from Cardiff city centre. The Gower coast and the hills and valleys of the Brecon Beacons are just a short drive from us. We live on a beautiful hill, with fields all around us and country walks on the doorstep. The apartment has been newly built and lovingly furnished, and has its own private entrance. It's the perfect get peaceful get away space. World class castles close by.

The space

The apartment is newly built, and has been lovingly furnished. It is cosy, yet stylish, a perfect get away. It has a 2 ring gas hob and a microwave combi oven, fridge and washing machine. The bathroom has a large shower. The bed can be made up as a Super King double or as two generous sized single beds....just let us know before you arrive what you prefer. There is a TV/DVD player and a DAB radio, along with some DVDs and books etc for you to enjoy. The apartment has WiFi.

From the main road you will spot our flagpoles. Come through the gate by the road. The first set of steps will lead you to your apartment front door. The second set of steps leads to our front door. If we are not home on your arrival, you will be given details of the key box, and there you will find the keys. The apartment has its own private entrance, and the whole apartment is yours, and you are welcome to spend time in our large garden.

We are happy to suggest places to visit, walks, restaurants etc. We can also offer a tailor-made castle tour within the local area with a guide and transport. Please ask for more details if you are interested.

We are surrounded by fields...which often have sheep grazing. It's quiet here and at night you may hear owls. The sky has very little light spill, so you can do some star gazing.

We are 3 miles from either Ystrad Mynach or Abercynon Railway Station, and a mile from the bus stop in Nelson. Let us know if you need a pick up on arrival or a drop off on departure and we will do our best to accommodate you.

We have chickens, two we bred ourselves and seven that we rescued. When they are laying we will share some fresh eggs on your arrival, along with some simple items for your first breakfast. Join us on 'Pen Beili Cottage' if you want to take a look.

Guest access

The apartment has its own private entrance, and you are welcome to spend time in our large garden.

Interaction with guests

We are happy to offer suggestions of places to visit....and we are well stocked with other tourist information. Castles are Patrick's passion.

Other things to note

Our chickens sometimes roam the whole of the garden, but they are usually in their own area. When they are laying we will have fresh eggs to share.

This cozy place has all the little touches you need for a wonderful stay. It's perfect for two and makes great use of space. There were bunnies and chickens wandering around, it's quiet and really clean and nice. The beds were comfortable, the place easy to find, and the hosts were friendly and helpful.

We had a perfect stay with Fiona and Patrick - a last-minute booking after other plans fell through. The flat was lovely, spacious, clean, quiet, and had a lovely view. Fiona also provided some great tips on local places to eat! Amazing location for BikePark Wales, we could not have had a better stay overall. Would thoroughly recommend :-)

Lovely spot and everything you need for a stay away from home. Clean, modern, your own space... and friendly hosts.

Simply perfect. The pictures are great but they cannot show the warmth of the hosts or truly capture the beautiful scenery. You will find EVERYTHING you might need for a nights or a months stay. Cosy, clean, bright and in a great location not only to explore Brecon Beacons but to get away from it all. It was hard to leave!

Cosy little place with a great view. The self-contained apartment is equipped quite well and is comfortable. Easy access to both cardiff and the brecon beacons. Fiona and her partner were lovely and welcoming, comes highly recommended!

Great location, great hosts, great... I visited the location with my 12 year old son and this was just a blast. Fiona and Philip are super friendly hosts, prompt to react to anything you might need. The place is ideally located if you are (as we are) cycling enhusiasts: ~20 mins away from Bike Park Wales, the Brecon Beacons trails, the Cwarm forst trails etc... The place is perfectly equipped, the beds are great, and is on top of it...extremely calm.

Warm welcome by owners. Awesome view from dinner room. Excellent bed to rest after exploring nearby Brecon Beacon national park.
