Enjoy a secluded stay at Gaia Rising Farm on Guemes Island just a 5 min. ferry ride from Anacortes. Watch our farm animals graze outside the widow of this charming studio apt. that is attached to our unique solar powered home. Walk the woods and beaches. Swim in our pond.

The space

Your hosts Lane and Sequoia are artists/ designers who have a commitment to a low footprint lifestyle and permaculture principles and have started Gaia Rising Farm to address food security concerns.. The private apt. sits at the end of our house/ studio complex. It has a wood burning stove (not needed in summer months), an adobe floor, a compost toilet and is powered by the solar panels on the roof. Farm fresh organic produce will be available for purchase. Help with farm chores if you like- discounts may be considered.
Children can be accommodated on cots or floor mats. We could also put up a tent in the summer months.

Guest access

We are a short walk or bike ride from the ferry, and the beach is only a half mile down our private lane. We have a beautiful pond that is great for swimming on nice days or you can take out the row boat. All the pleasures of the San Juan Islands are at your fingertips. We have two bicycles available for guests to use anytime.

Interaction with guests

We enjoy meeting new people and also respect guests privacy if they don't want interaction. We will usually be home during guest stays if any issues come up.
We are willing to take more than two guests but there is one bed so additional guests will have a foam pad for the floor for $10 per each additional guest.

Other things to note

There is a $10 per person charge for any extra guests over two and a $10 charge for a dog. I do need to pre approve having a dog.

We had a great time at Sequoia's beautiful farm! Guemes Island is amazing and Sequoia's farm is a terrific place to stay and explore the area. We were welcomed very kindly and look forward to visiting again.

Another great stay in Guemes. This spot makes an already delightful island-stay even more magical. Thanks Sequoia!

Great place! Guemes Island is a treasure and so is this little studio. I enjoyed being so close to the animals and the quietness of the location. Highly recommended for anyone trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Guemes Island is beautiful and experience off-the-grid living like this is a special opportunity. We had very little interaction with the hosts and would have enjoyed a bit more to do with the animals and to be invited to see the garden. Also, be aware that the compost toilet is for feces only. Urine all goes into a bucket that you need to empty yourself somewhere on the property (you choose, so does anybody else who stayed there before you). Also, water isn't 100% cleared for drinking although there is a Brita filter jug to use. The refrigerator isn't at a consistent temperature and there are no grocery stores/restaurants on the island so you need to consider that when you prep meals and consider perishable items. The place is really cute and definitely unique but I think the description omits some items that would have helped us to prepare better.

Sequoia and her room are both delightful. It's really 'off the grid' except that the wifi is good!Just a few minutes from the ferry across from Anacortes and then the whole of Guermes island is within easy reach. The room is comfortable and both we and our grandkids enjoyed vising with the sheep, chickens and ducks - and a rooster wakes you in the morning.

Sequoia's Eco farm is exactly as described. We had a very relaxing weekend retreat. We recommend riding your bike onto the island as it made getting around very easy and relaxing. The farm is close to the ferry and the beautiful Guemes mountain trail hike.
