Stay in our beautifully crafted wooden Shepherd’s Hut, in a secluded south facing setting next to the river.
Surrounded by rolling green hills, this is the perfect eco-retreat, with solar powered electricity and total privacy. Enjoy the elegant interior furnishings and cosy wood stove, or detox in the wood-fired sauna.
Ideal for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers, or anyone looking to get away from the normal hustle and bustle of life. Extensive outdoor space is ideal for dogs!
We make furniture for a living and the Shepherd's Hut showcases our natural, rustic wood and slate style, and our funky compost toilets and showers (search Free Range Designs to see our work).
The space offers guaranteed peace and quiet and connection to nature. Enjoy your breakfast at the table outside and maybe spot the grey heron flying in to catch his food from the river. In the evening you can sit outdoors around a bonfire to gaze at the stars and listen out for the owls, and keep your eyes pealed for badgers or even an otter.
On wet days (we do get quite a few of these in Wales) you can slide out the cleverly designed table and benches from under the bed for spacious indoor dining, and watch the moon rise over the fields.
The Shepherds hut has been very well insulated and even on the coldest winter days you will be dry and toasty inside and there is a gas-powered shower.
There is no wi-fi, but there is (patchy) mobile phone reception.
The place is very tranquil, but if you prefer to liven it up there are no close neighbours (apart from the heron, badgers, otters and owls.)
Parking is available close to the Hut, a short walk on the other side of the hedge.
The Shepherd's Hut is in your own private south facing field. You are welcome to use our riverside sauna, available on request, to swim in the lake (perhaps more of a large pond) or jump in the river.
Depending on the time of year you might even get fresh eggs from our hens, veg from the polytunnel, or a selection of pick-you-own berries.
Interaction with guests
The Shepherd's Hut is on our family smallholding and we can meet you on arrival. Suzanne or I are generally around to answer any questions you might have during your stay, help light fires, or point you in the right direction for local walks and attractions.
Other things to note
This is glamping at its best. Make a fire in the wood stove inside to keep warm in winter (there is a gas hob for cooking), or a bonfire outside under the stars on clear nights. This is Wales and the weather is unpredictable, so it's advisable to bring good footwear and waterproofs.
I am an artist and furniture maker ( : free range designs) and live together with my wife Suzanne, her mother Irene, and our two children on a peaceful 4 acre smallholding, where we keep free range chickens and grow a variety of fruit and vegetables.
We are outdoorsy people and love to go walking, cycling, mountain biking, kayaking and generally adventuring.
