About this listing

Peace and tranquility abound here. Nestled amongst an old famine workhouse and centuries old mills this area is rich in folklore and history. A great location to explore West Cork & the Beara peninsula from and only a 5 minute drive into Bantry town. We've a cosy sitting room with wood burning stove & library to unwind in after a long day's hiking or if you really want to pamper yourself treat yourself to a full body massage. We pride ourselves on our hearty breakfast, you won't be disappointed!

The space

Donemark Falls is a detached house, in a secluded setting. From the grounds you can take in views of a waterfall, salmon pools and the ruins of an old mill. During the summer months this is a busy spot for salmon leaping up the falls.
A barbecue is available for use should you catch yourself a fish and there is plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.
Steeped in history, legend has it that this was the landing place for the very first inhabitants of Ireland. It was also home to a tannery, brewery, mill and a work house during the Irish Famine.
We have other rooms available so even if this is booked message me and we'll see what can be done.

Guest access

You will have access to our lounge area which has a wood stove, coffee machine, lots of teas, boardgames, a small library (book exchange) and a magic pool table.

Interaction with guests

You may interact as much or as little as you wish. I live here myself so will be on hand most of the time for advice or suggestions on local attractions. We love hiking and exploring so will have lots of ideas for if you like the outdoors. One of my favourite aspects of being an Airbnb host is getting to help plan my guest's day over breakfast although I get a little envious from time to time too.

Other things to note

Ideal location for golf (Bantry golf course it a stones throw away) horse riding, angling (you must own a valid salmon license to fish here, local fees also apply), boat and kayak trips to Whiddy Island, hill walking and traditional music.
There's some fantastic restaurants to be found in Bantry. Donemark West is a 5 minute walk from here, it's tiny and gets booked up fast so pre-booking is recommended. The Fish Kitchen in Bantry is another gem particularly if you're a lover of fish.

We had a gorgeous time at the beautiful stone home & wanted to hang out longer! Lucky to have a tour and walk out to the waterfall! Loved the group gourmet breakfast (how lucky we were, our bodies appreciated a break from the fry up) nice and lively to sit with all and hear stories. An extra bonus was the movie to chill out too! Couldn't think of a better way to start the day with than Yoga in house each morning! 5 stars!

Clean and comfortable room. Very hospitable hosts. Upon arrival we had a tour of the grounds, including the falls, which we loved. There was a hot drink and cookie station set up. In the morning, we had a very tasty and unique breakfast with others, enjoying and visiting around the homey kitchen table. We had a great experience !

Can't say enough about Claire and Eli's place! What a gem. The views were stunning and we had a very warm welcome. Lovely cosy and comfy bedrooms. They made a breakfast in the morning that was to die for, the best we had on our travels. We were given a tour of the waterfalls surrounding and were floored by the beauty and history in the place. So nice to be just outside Bantry and in such a peaceful scenic spot. Claire and Eli were so delightful and we hope to be back sometime soon. Thanks a mill Claire and Eli!

Claire and Eli have a fantastic place, loaded with history and natural beauty. We wish we had stayed longer than one night. All amenities were provided including a great breakfast. The wifi signal was very weak( in that area in general, I think) so don't expect to do much surfing or downloading there. Everything else at this place more than makes up for it!

Claire and Elaine are great hosts and made us really welcome. The house is in a unique setting, close by two beautiful waterfalls. Beds very comfortable, lovely large shared lounge and excellent breakfasts. Can't recommend too highly.

Claire and Elaine were unbelievable hosts! Claire and Eli own a beautiful home on a gorgeous piece of property just outside Bantry town. When we arrived Claire met us right out at the car. She had messaged earlier so we knew exactly where to go and what to expect. The accomadtions where perfect. Comfy bed, spacious & clean bathroom, a coffee & tea station with biscuits, books & movies to barrow, and a breakfast that was as gourmet as any you'd find in a 5 star restaurant. What makes Claire's AirBnB so special is the views and property. Claire gave us a tour of Donemark Falls, about a 3 minute walk from the front door. It is absolutely serene and gorgeous. We remarked that you would never get to see this beautiful secret part of Ireland if you didn't stay with Claire. Claire herself is lovely. She welcomed us with a cheese plate and beer or cider. She offered to help us plan our day and gave great suggestions on what else to see on our holiday. She's friendly and easy to talk to. She makes you feel like a friend staying in her home. I can't recommend this place enough. If you are in Ireland it is a must! Thanks so much for the hospitality. We will definitely be back!

Born in Bantry, I grew up a few miles from Donemark on a small farm. I've spent my life here for the most part except for a few adventures every chance I've had.
