About this listing

Peace and tranquility abound here. Nestled amongst an old famine workhouse and centuries old mills this is an area rich in folklore and history. A great location from which to explore West Cork and the Beara peninsula and only a twenty minute walk into Bantry Town. We do a great breakfast too, you can choose from Belgian Waffles, Poached eggs with balsamic roasted tomatoes or a really delicious porridge. Or on the odd occasion I may send you out on a kayak to catch your own!

The space

Donemark Falls is a detached house, in a secluded setting. From the grounds you can take in views of a waterfall, salmon pools and the ruins of an old mill. During the summer months this is a busy spot for salmon leaping up the falls.
A barbecue is available for use should you catch yourself a fish and there is plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.
Steeped in history, legend has it that this was the landing place for the very first inhabitants of Ireland. It was also home to a tannery, brewery, mill and a work house during the Irish Famine.

Guest access

You will have access to our lounge area which has a wood stove, tea/coffee station, boardgames, a small library and a miniature pool table. A continental breakfast is included in the rate and can be served outdoors if the weather allows.

Interaction with guests

You may interact as much or as little as you wish. I live here myself so will be on hand most of the time for advice or suggestions on local attractions.

The neighbourhood

Donemark Falls is a detached house and in a very private setting. It is located at the end of a small lane off the Wild Atlantic Way. The garden has seating areas where you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the falls and watching the wildlife it attracts.
Beyond here, the Wild Atlantic Way is on our doorstep with Whiddy Island a short kayak trip across the bay.
For some live music a walk into Ma Murphy's in Bantry is a must, one of the most authentic Irish Bars to be found anywhere in the country. For good wine and charcuterie boards Mannings Emporium is a 30 min walk away.

Getting around

Best to have a car or a bike to get here, we've ample parking. It's a short walk into Bantry from which there is a regular bus service.

Other things to note

Ideal location for golf (Bantry golf course it a stones throw away) horse riding, angling (you must own a valid salmon license to fish here, local fees also apply), boat and kayak trips to Whiddy Island, hill walking and traditional music€.

My friends and I had an amazing stay with Claire for one night over the weekend!! We had a little difficulty locating the house in the dark and entered someone else's property accidentally (when you turn into the street where the accommodation is, you will arrive at a fork, Claire's bnb is down the road on the left) but when we eventually found the place, we were so pleasantly surprised! The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, shower was warm, and the sitting area was extremely cosy and nice. Claire welcomed us warmly with cheese and beer, a warm fireplace and was extremely helpful in giving us tips on where to visit around the area. We were invited into Claire's beautiful kitchen the next morning for breakfast with her and boy were we impressed!! Not only was the kitchen beautiful and comfortable, the breakfast was simply amazing! We started off with "cold" breakfast consisting of bread and Claire's home made oats with lots of fresh fruits, dates and nuts (the oats was the best I've ever had, wished I had a bigger stomach for more!). Next up was the "hot breakfast" with eggs, roasted vegetable and toast! To top it off, some really good coffee and tea. To end off our stay at the bnb, Claire brought us around the back of the house after breakfast to show us the waterfall and ruins of the old buildings around the property and shared some really interesting stories/ history about the place. Walking through the old ruins while listening to the stories was a really enchanting experience for me personally (: All in all, Claire's place gave my friends and I the perfect experience for a bnb and I would highly highly recommend her place if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Bantry. Definitely tops my bnb chart! (:

My friend Abdul and I spent one night over there. We met Claire and her friends also Eiel, she welcome us with open arms and she told us about the place with showing old worker house that is located near to her B&B. After this short tour, we had very enjoyable conversations. I would say that Claire is very nice and helpful person. Regarding her property , it is the best B&B I have rented in Cork. We never forget this amazing hostility & experience. Thank you Claire.

Donemark falls is a special retreat and a very unique air bnb stay. If you are looking for something different or an escape for a small while this is the place for you. Nested on a little inlet across from Whiddy Island, this property is surrounded by really interesting history and mythology. Clare was a very formidable and generous host. We were welcomed with an offer of cheese and crackers and great advice about activities and sights in Bantry and surrounding areas. Our room was warm and comfortable and right next to a spacious shared bathroom, which had a lovely rain shower. The following morning we had been prepared a beautiful breakfast of bircher muesli, brewed coffee, eggs, balsamic tomatoes and a great selection of breads. We really couldn't have asked for more. As we arrived in darkness we didn't get to appreciate the surroundings until we sat for breakfast and took in the views of the waterfall, historic workhouse and other old buildings. Claire gave everyone a guided tour and offered the option to borrow her kyackas to row out to Whiddy island if we desired. Well worth a trip, highly recommended from us! Go néiri an t-adh leat Claire & Eli!

Response from Claire:
Eli hasn't stopped laughing at his 'formidable' partner.....I'm trying to convince him it was meant to be hospitable, that spell check got in the way....or maybe I'm clutching at straws! :) It was great having you stay and I look forward to seeing you both again. x

Claire and Eli were perfect B&B hosts and operators. We were warmly greeted and felt a part of their family while we were there. Accomodations were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a variety of choices. Claire's granola dish was unique and yummy. An unexpected treat was a tour of the island adjacent to their facility. There were two stunning waterfalls flowing dramatically after an evening rain. In addition, we were shown the ruins of two buildings used during the famine years and thereafter. Fascinating! We would highly recommend Claire's B&B as a springboard for visiting the Wild Atlantic Way in the southwest

Born in Bantry, I grew up a few miles from Donemark on a small farm. I've spent my life here for the most part except for a few adventures every chance I've had.
