Stay off Sirigiya's beaten track in this colorful garden house. Price is for a double room.

The space

Tharindu's cute, small home was built in 2015, especially for guests who like to stay away from touristy Sigiriya town. The home was build by the host's uncle to support his family and to earn some income in financially difficult times. Currently, one of the home's two rooms is available to host guests, a nice room with a double bed, big windows and an attached bathroom.

Interaction with guests

You'll be hosted by 19-year old Tharindu and his grandma Kiri Amma, who all live in the house opposite the guest house. Just out of high school, but responsible beyond his age, Tharindu manages the home and takes care of guests, while grandma helps with the cleaning and cooking. Tharindu speaks a little bit of English, not enough to have an in-depth conversation, but enough to manage his guests' requests. He also has a safari jeep, which he uses to take guests on safari to Minneriya's wildlife park and he can arrange other types tours such as fun tuk tuk journeys.

Great location to Lions Rock and Pidurangula Rock. A beautiful family, very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. An authentic village experience.

The room was not bad, not good. There was smell in room. But place very close to Lion rock, so it's very good for short time.

The hosts are very friendly and helpful - they welcomed us with delicious mango and gave us tea in the morning. The place is perfect for walking to Sigiriya and calm, close to nature. Wi-fi worked fine. Thank you for a good stay! :)

There are dozens of places to choose from in Sigiriya, but I was very happy to know I was contributing to a small family effort. I liked being away from the main road and the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed chatting with Tharindu. He has a good map sense and could give me good directions for bicycle touring. For me, the place was perfect because I had my own bicycle. Highly recommended to bring or rent one. The surrounding area is fantastic for cycling. Fun wildlife (peacocks, monkeys, big lizards and of course elephants which I heard come through the yard sometimes) nice roads and fantastic views of the rocks from every angle. I wasn't expecting wifi, but it worked well and food was easily found a short ride away. I really recommend enjoying the slower life as there's a lot more to the area than just the rock.

We only stayed here for one night and were pretty busy so didn't see the owner much. The room is very basic and not as clean as I would of liked it, but considering the price it was fine for one night

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
