Milton is a great guy. He showed up on time for an arranged airport pickup. He was straightforward from the second we met. He was willing to take me to the mall/grocery store and even lend me his cellphone for (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) given that his internet service was down. I would do it over again whenever I need to spend one night over for a connecting flight in Panama. Two thumbs up for Milton!
Milton was a great host. He was prompt with his pickup at the airport. This is a local place so you need to remember you are in Panama and to be okay with that it's not the Hilton. The bed was comfortable and the place was clean. If noise is an issue bring ear plugs because it is close to the airport and you can hear the planes. He let us cook in his kitchen and we had great conversation. This place is great if you are just passing through or on a budget and enjoy a great local feel. I would stay there again for sure!!!
Milton misunderstood 14:23 as 4:23. We were expecting a pick up from Milton at the airport, but after waiting for a frustrating hour of no-replies, I just booked a hotel. I did not get to experience Milton's home at all. It's a rather unfortunate mishap. In the end though, he replied and even said that he has a parking stub at the airport to pick us up. Oh well
I arranged to stay at this airbnb after 3 nights in San Blas before flying out of Panama City due to the location closer to the airport. Our tour company from San Blas was going to drop us off at the airbnb but had difficulty finding the house. When we called Milton, he made arrangements with the driver to pick us up at a store close to his home as he was unable to give verbal directions to his house from his neighborhood. Milton drove us to his house. He was unable to give us a key to the door, unless we left. Then he informed us his wifi was down. He offered to take us later to the mega-mall for wifi however at this point it was late and we were exhausted from our trip. My sister really needed wifi to check into flights as well as secure her lodging back in Nicaragua the next day with friends but she was unable to with the wifi down. We discussed going to the Megamall but we were exhausted and decided to get cleaned up and go to bed early and deal in the morning. Guess what - NO WATER! I informed Milton at his main house and he said he knew. The water never came on that night or the next day before my flight. I had to fly internationally without a shower after three days on the islands. He did not have buckets of water to even flush the toilets. He then overcharged us from what he told me for a ride to the airport - even after no wifi/water. I would have been more understanding had he been upfront when he picked us up. I would have then arranged to stay somewhere, almost anywhere else. It was too difficult to try and arrange an alternate place to stay without wifi, unable to call cabs/ubers and felt unsafe to walk in the neighborhood with luggage. I would have been way more understanding had he been upfront when he picked us up from the start - knowing his wifi and water was off. Very disappointing.
Response from Milton:
Upon picking up Karla and her sister at the entrance of Alto-de-Angel, because her driver was unable to read the map and called me. I went to get them both. I informed her that my internet was down so if she had anything business to do with internet, I would be happy to take her to the Mega Mall close by a minute or two driving time from the Guest House. She indicated that they would see about it as to whether or not they would take up that offer. Upon reaching the Guest House, there was not water on site. This was due to the fact that construction is going on with the new subway system that the government is constructing and bring to the Mega Mall nearby as I previously mentioned. It was my belief that the water would returning late in the evening. However, the water did not come on at all for the rest of the night until very late the next. This was an unusual occurrence, never before happen. Owing to the fact that I had to go and pick them up, I only charge half the price, I already indicated to her that pick up was $10 from the airport or to go to the airport, hence I charged them for the pick up and to the airport a total of $15. They had a fully functioning self contained unit with bed, air conditioning, table, stove, refrigerator, cutlery, toilet, shower, towel, soap etc. for only the sum of $34 which was a bargain. If she had indicated to me that she was totally unhappy or wanted to go elsewhere I would have accommodated that instead of giving me considerable attitude or grief, that make me a bad host. I even had my English speaking neighbor gave her an updated as to what was happening in the community pertaining to the new construction and the diversion of the water system. He even offered to go to the store for bottled water, to which she declined. I have hosted over 12 person prior to Kara and her sister and there were never any issues. And if she had communicated to me better, I would have been pleased to offer her and her sister in the interest of good customer service a free night whenever they are again in Panama, including free pick-up. It is amazing how someone can spin a story to their advantage.
