Old school ("kyläkoulu") from 1890's, typical Finnish beam architecture (listed building) on countryside, but near Helsinki (30min by train from Haarajoki station). Traditional old-style bedroom. Modern conveniences like new kitchen and toilet/shower (2015), but old house's spirit. In winter you need to use heating + woolen socks, by burning wood in fireplace (very typical old-style Finnish "pönttöuuni") or by electricity. Bicycle. We understand: Suomi, English, Svenska, Francais.
Guests can sleep in the "Blue Room", another half of the old classroom. All pieces of furniture are made of Scandinavian wood. 5 big original windows.
In the other part of the old classroom there is a workspace (needing floor repair) and modern toilet/shower. Kitchen is very big, located in the old hall. It is new, but the furniture is old-style. Fridge with small freezer, microwave, little stove and oven. Dishwasher. Some pieces of furniture are very traditional ones, made of wood and painted by hand. From kitchen you can walk straight to the terrace to enjoy your meal and admire the field view (afternoon and evening sun). In winter the field view from the window seems like frozen lake. Guests can also use the terrace in front of the house (morning sun).
Everywhere in the house you can see the original wooden structure.
Lot of space, high roof.
No need of air condition (the house "breathes" by itself), but in winter you will really need to use heating and woolen socks, either by burning wood in fireplace (very typical old-style Finnish "pönttöuuni") or by new electricity heaters. IMPORTANT! In winter (Sep-May) there is additional fee concerning heating.
No problems with moisture, good air inside.
The Blue Bedroom, big kitchen, toilet/shower. You can use all the garden and terrace freely. There are garden chairs, table and barbeque (works with gas). In the garden you can freely eat apples and berries from the blackcurrant, gooseberry and redcurrant bushes (in July-August).
Interaction with guests
I will gladly give information and help, and if I am not available, I will arrenge somebody you can contact. You can borrow a map or books about Finland's sites (in Finnish).
Other things to note
Wi-fi may be possible to arrenge.
There are 2 other apartments in the house (with permanent residents), one upstairs and one beside this, downstairs. Everyone has their own kitchen and wc, but one resident has to walk through the same hall as the resident of this apartment when he goes home. Kitchen and hall are same big space. Otherwise private in summer. The bedroom ("Blue room") is in the corner of the house, very private. In autumn/winter/spring there is also a piano school (Ullan Pianokoulu) working in the house, but only weekdays.
