The space
Log cabin in quiet, rural area on 10 mostly treed acres, where you can watch for visiting deer, woodpeckers, eagles and other wildlife, including the occasional ducks or herons visiting the pond. There are many well-groomed hiking and walking trails nearby and we are a short drive to many local attractions, such as the North Island Wildlife Rescue Centre and Englishman River Falls. Friendly and approachable hosts live on the property, and are more than happy to offer information about the area, but also respect your privacy.

Where you’ll be

Errington, British Columbia, Canada

You can enjoy the tranquility of our quiet, rural, mainly treed area, but in less than 10 minutes you can be in Parksville or Coombs, where you can access amenities such as grocery stores, shopping, galleries, museums and restaurants (fast food, fine dining, local and organic.) We are 3 minutes from the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre, and less than 10 to the beautiful Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, and the famous 'Goats on the Roof' Market in Coombs. We are close (15 min.) to the beautiful beaches of Parksville and Rathtrevor Provincial Park. There are many local walking and hiking trails from easy to more challenging. Cathedral Grove's amazing old growth forest walks and the picturesque town of Qualicum Beach are each about a 20 minute drive from us. You can go caving at Horne Lake Caves in 40 minutes, hike or ski at Mount Washington in an hour, or in just over 2 hours, enjoy the sand or surf at Tofino and Ucluelet on our Island's west coast.

My husband and I spent the first five years of our retirement traveling and living 3 or 4 months at a time in a variety of locations. We enjoyed the sunshine in Arizona, took Swing dancing lessons in Vancouver's West End, helped to build a house in Pahoa, Hawaii, beach-combed in Nanoose Bay, practiced our French in Perigueux, France, and marvelled at the wonders of Italy. Along the way, we had many positive experiences in Airbnb homes, so when we built our retirement dream house on Vancouver Island, we decided to turn the heritage log cabin on our acreage into a cozy get-away to welcome other travellers to the beautiful area we chose for home.
