Quiet and cozy Apartment right on the beach in Paúl do Mar, Calheta.

The space

For the budget traveller and the perfect “hideaway” location for the surfing, bodyboarding, writing, fishing, or sea side enthusiast. It is located in a very quiet portion of the Paúl do Mar village and is literally 10 metres away from the beach. Indeed, on high tide you can sit on the terrace area - or even in the kitchen - and throw a fishing line! The area in which the fresh and tidy self-catering apartment is located was formerly a fishing haunt and has many traces of its piscatorial history including some romantic old fishing huts. For most of the history of the village there never was road access (everybody used a boat to travel in the old days) - but now there are tunnels and solid roads and parking space some 20 metres before the apartment. The apartment is part of a two-storey building and is located on top floor with its own terrace with an uninterrupted view of the sea forever….

This two-bedroomed Apartment has two Bedrooms. One Bedroom has a large double bed and the other Bedroom has two single beds. For guests that bring along a baby, a baby cot is available free of charge. The Kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessary utensils and equipment you may need to prepare your own meals. There is cable television in the lounge area with a sea view and a magnificent roof terrace with barbecue, hammock, table and chairs as well as deck chairs.

The apartment is located just next to the sea in a very athmospheric housing area of old houses, local habitants and narrow streets. The apartment itself was very clean and apparently renowed recently. The interior of the apartment was clearly carefully planned and put a lot of effort into. The kitchen was modern and quite well equipped. The best part of the apartment, however, was the beatiful view from the kitchen/living area window and the marvelous terrace on rhe roof. Very enjoyable apartment in a nice, small and rather quiet village.

George met us at the airport and gave us very good instructions for getting to Mar do Paul (an hour away) and a beautiful map of how to get there. He was very friendly. The apartment was a stone throw from the sea and you could hear the waves all night. The apartment was very clean, had wifi, parking and had everything you needed for a week long stay (and an abundance of towels). The best thing about the apartment was the terrace which looked out into the ocean. Very relaxing if you want to get away from the normal tourist areas and explore.

Very warm Welcome; well organized; simple handling ... and we loved the place right at the sea shore! small village; friendly neighbors; some nice bar's and restaurants with good food; impressive scenery.

Everything was smooth & easy. Thanks go to Giorgio for making the arrangements so simple. The apartment is spacious (especially for one). It is traditionally furnished. The gem is the massive roof terrace - a magical place that is hardly overlooked. With a pebble beach on its doorstep, the sea may seem noisy & invasive to some. Others will ignore its presence or see it as a charming bonus, especially when watching the sun set. The village is no tourist-magnet. A basic, traditional coastal haven of peace & solitude. Buildings jostle against each other & overhang the tiny alleys that are Paul do Mar's essence but it is blest with two cafes & more eateries close by. You can swim in a protected area close to the harbour. A great base to explore the west & north of Madeira. Thanks for a memorable stay.

This apartment is great for a chill out break. It's in a quiet location and so close to the sea that you can listen to the waves day and night. Inside is fully equipped with everything you need (plus dominoes!) and thoughtfully decorated with a nautical theme, but our favourite part was the roof terrace - perfect for sunbathing, barbecuing and watching the neighbourhood cats and the sunset. You'll need a car to get around here. In walking distance are a couple of bar/cafes, a handy little shop just around the block behind the apartment, and a bit further up the coast, past the church is the wonderful Maktub/One Love bar/restaurant which is a reason to stay here on its own - excellent food and mojitos. Sandy was helpful in supplying information, and the owner, Giorgio who met us to hand over the keys was also helpful and friendly. We would recommend this apartment to anyone wanting a quiet break, getting away from it all.

Paúl do Mar is a lovely town located between the mountains and the sea. The appartment is directly at the sea. It is lovely hearing the waves and seeing the sea through the kitchen window. The roof terrace is awesome. Communication and handover of the keys was very easy. We enjoyed our stay. However we saw a few cockroaches on the street. Unfortunately we caught four of them in the kitchen. Due to the big window and the terrace it might be easy for them to come in.

When we arrived at Madeira airport we were welcomed by Giorgio, which was very nice. He gave us the keys and informed us where we can find the house. The house is located in a very small fishing village with a beautiful view of the ocean. It was really awesome falling asleep with the sound of the waves and getting up with the nice smell and view of the ocean. Another advantage is that there were no tourists. The position on the island is also pretty nice, the south-west side is more warmer and maybe more natural. The only unpleasant thing is we have to clean the car every morning. Because we parked just a few meters from the ocean, the car become dirty overnight (from salt). Nevertheless I fully recommend this beautiful apartment, if you want some privacy and quietness. Thank you Sandy Gouveia!
