Description

The space

Donemark Falls is a very special place where you can escape to the magic and myth of Old Ireland. From your bedroom you can take in views of a waterfall, the salmon pool and the ruins of an old mill. During the summer months you'll witness our wild salmon leaping up the waterfall to spawn.
A barbecue is available for use should you catch yourself a fish and there is plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.
Steeped in history, legend & lore this little inlet has links to Noah of the arc, Fionn Mac Cumhaill and the Salmon of Knowledge.

Guest access

You will have access to our lounge area which has a wood stove, tea/coffee station, boardgames, a small library and a miniature pool table. A continental breakfast is included in the rate and can be served outdoors if the weather allows.

Interaction with guests

You may interact as much or as little as you wish. I live here myself so will be on hand most of the time for advice or suggestions on local attractions. We love hiking and exploring so will have lots of ideas for if you like the outdoors.

The neighbourhood

Donemark Falls is a detached house and in a very private setting. It is located at the end of a small lane off the Wild Atlantic Way. The garden has seating areas where you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the falls and watching the wildlife it attracts.
Beyond here, the Wild Atlantic Way is on our doorstep with Whiddy Island a short kayak trip across the bay.
For some live music a walk into Ma Murphy's in Bantry is a must, one of the most authentic Irish Bars to be found anywhere in the country. For good wine and charcuterie boards Mannings Emporium is a 30 min walk away.

Getting around

Best to have a car or a bike to get here, we've ample parking. It's a short walk into Bantry from which there is a regular bus service.

Other things to note

Ideal location for golf (Bantry golf course it a stones throw away) horse riding, angling (you must own a valid salmon license to fish here, local fees also apply), boat and kayak trips to Whiddy Island, hill walking and traditional music.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Claire and Eli's place for two nights. If you think it looks good from the photos - it's better. The bungalow is situated in between old mill buildings which have been taken over by nature and a salmon pond with a waterfall. I've never seen anything like it! The room is clean and comfortable, and the bed is huge. Claire made us a healthy breakfast and joined us to eat each morning providing excellent company. We came to this area with no really plans or knowledge and Claire was very helpful and helped us make the most of our time. Couldn't have asked for a better host. If you are ever in this area, you'd be silly not to stay here!

The Falls lodge is such a beautiful place to stay. The sounds of the water, the birds chirping outside your window and the swans swimming towards the sunset. Picture perfect! Truly a bit of paradise. Claire and Eli are such friendly people, we truly felt at home! Breakfast was phenomenal, right up my alley. Thank you so much for the experience!

Staying at Claire and Eli's place was the best airbnb experience we've ever had! Both are really open and welcoming people. The place and surrounding is lovely. Breakfast was just awesome. :) Thanks again for making us feel so welcome. We'll definitely recommend it to our friends.

Out of every Airbnb experience we've had, staying at Donemark Falls was easily our favourite. Claire and Eli couldn't have been more welcoming hosts. They made us feel right at home, had tons of amazing recommendations for the surrounding area, and the food was absolutely amazing and beyond expectations. The cottage itself is tucked away in a wonderful oasis but only a 5 minute drive to Bantry, allowing for quick trips to town if needed. The living space was beautiful and the bed was extremely comfortable. The only downside is that we had to leave and return to our normal lives. We can't wait to visit Claire and Eli again!

A fantastic air bnb experience in every single way. Claire could offer training courses for potential hosts. They would certainly be learning from the best!

What can we possibly say about Claire and Eli that hasn't already been described below? Our experience at Donemark Falls will go down as one of the best Airbnb stays we've ever had; from the warm reception (ice cold beers and a cheese plate), to the enlightening tour of the historic property, to the gorgeous space with an incredibly comfortable bed, and best of all... trading travel stories, sharing many laughs and getting to know Claire, Eli, Merlin and Shamrock over an amazing, homemade breakfast and too many cups of delicious coffee. Our only regret is we couldn't stay longer. An absolute must stay! Thanks again Claire and Eli.

Claire User ProfileClaire is a superhost.

Born in Bantry, I grew up a few miles from Donemark on a small farm. I've spent my life here for the most part except for a few adventures every chance I've had.
