The space

This beautifully restored Grade 2 17th century house has a contemporary feel in the kitchen, with 4 door gas aga (not in summer) and electric oven and gas hob and 2 dishwashers, that opens out onto ancient brick terrace. Each aspect of the house looks out onto stunning gardens and topiary hedging together with a large kitchen garden full of vegetables and salad and a tennis court in the orchard. The colours in the house give it a vibrant feel with many young artists work on the walls. The dining room opens onto the kitchen for relaxed or formal dining with seating for 12 + with open fires in 2 rooms and a wood burner in the TV sitting room. There is a fabulous wooden floored hall with grand piano for relaxed evenings. Upstairs on the 1st floor there are 5 double bedrooms with 1 kingsize bed, 1 ensuite bedroom with Queensize bed and 3 double beds. Extra guests can be discussed.

Other things to note

This is a very sleepy rural area and we have a friendly blind old cat Muffin who may appear. There are chicken in a run in the garden and some sheep in a field. The back garden is secure and child friendly with 2 gates. there is also a gate to the kitchen terrace. As this is such an old property please be aware of the uneven floors, steps into rooms and low beams together with unreliable mobile phone signal.

An enchanting picturesque quintessentially English country house. The grounds are enclosed in a series of ‘rooms’ with an array of rustic walls and yew and beech hedges interspersed with ornaments. The borders are awash with herbaceous border, shrubs and annual plants. Indoors the décor is exquisite creating a spacious yet intimate home. Downstairs each room has its own character inviting conversation, artistically decorated and uniquely contrasting each other; even the downstairs toilet is a journey! Upstairs each bedroom tells its owns special story, beautifully and individually decorated. This property breathes its own character and you will leave wanting to call it home.

Response from Annabel:
Apologies for the difficulty in communication - due to the remoteness of the house wifi can be tricky and was at that time and we use wifi calls on the mobile too.

We had an extremely enjoyable time at Hurston Place. The house and grounds are full of character and in an excellent condition throughout. The kitchen was very well equipped and we made full use of all entertainment spaces. This house is also ideally located for Goodwood events and as long as you're careful on the final approach round it can accommodate cars with low clearance.

A very special place. Generously proportioned rooms. So much original art about the place it could be Vanessa Bell's Charleston. Walled gardens, topiary and sculptures. An inspirational family home.

We had a fantastic weekend at Hurston Place and I cannot recommend it highly enough! The house is gorgeous and I only wish we had more time to spend there - would definitely love to come back! As we were in the area for a wedding, we unfortunately did not get to take advantage of the tennis court and grounds. Annabel responded super quick to any questions we had and was extremely helpful when we asked for local pub recommendations etc. We were a group of 14 and there was plenty of space for everyone. The only bad thing I have to say is... that we had to leave :(

hi I am a mother of 3 artistic daughters - I am a great supporter of the arts and I love gardening and walking my dogs on the the south downs with views of the sea. Restoring this house has provided a great space for filling with life and laughter.
