Lovely restored 1930's beach cottage. Huge porch, bonus outdoor shower, high ceilings, beadboard throughout. Small space but thoughtfully laid out. Wonderful location close to market, restaurants & clubs, yet in a quiet residential neighborhood! Jones Street is 3 blocks off the "main drag" (Butler Ave)...& just 3 blocks to the beach! The next street over (2nd) is primarily for bicycles!! Enjoy a quiet neighborhood, just steps from all the action!
Tybee Island is a unique, relatively un-discovered beach town off the coast of Georgia with easy access to Savannah. It is not the "Cape"; it is not the "Hamptons"...not chic at all. Prepare for a laid back space with a Southern eccentric feel. Nobody is in a hurry here! Tybee Time is the standing rule! Maybe tomorrow! We hope it always stays the same, but enjoy it while you can & appreciate the uniqueness of this little island.
Sandy Shoes & Sea Glass Cottage are 2 attached one bedroom cottages on Tybee Island. Built in 1939, they are said to have been part of the old Fort Screven at the north end of the island. Fort Screven was an army base that was de-commissioned in the late 1940's & subsequently the buildings were sold off (early 50's ) & some moved to other parts of the island to serve as beach cottages. They can be rented separately or together!
They feature many historic details---beadboard throughout & high ceilings which give both an airy feel. They are small spaces but perfect for a beach vacation!
The entire front of each cottage is shaded by private screened in porches. Furnished with wicker & a table for outdoor eating. Fans are also included for those hot summer evenings!
Sandy Shoes is a stand alone apartment (small ---500 sq ft)..fully furnished; with a/c & heat; eclectically furnished with functioning kitchen (all utensils, pots/pans)...living room with tv (Roku, access to netflix, etc)..wifi. Off street parking provided for each unit. Complete new bathroom with tiled shower. Bedroom is small--almost like a treehouse with 6 windows. Although there are window coverings (blinds); there are no blackout curtains. If you need complete darkness to sleep, please bring an eye mask. Bonus Outdoor shower & bbq grill is shared with the other unit (Sea Glass Cottage)---or rent both for more space & enjoyment!
Interaction with guests
I live in Historic Savannah (20 min away), but am always available for a consult. Contact me for recommendations & especially if you want to make a combined Historic Savannah/Tybee vacation using my downtown cottages as well! There are ample brochures & tourist information in each cottage!
Other things to note
These cottages are SMALL....there is a small single day bed in Sandy Shoes (cottage A). They are ideally suited for a couple. two couples may be pushing it. I'd really like to avoid the cram-in-as-many-people as possible scenario--for your own comfort & the safety of the cottage. Rent both cottages & enjoy more space! There is an additional linen fee of $25 if you require an additional set of sheets. This is the cost of having them laundered & ironed. Under no circumstances is someone allowed to 'crash' on the sofa.
