This 18th century cottage sits atop this stunning coastal peninsular that once formed the thriving fishing community of Old Castle Slains. Nestled in the shadow of the 13th century castle ruin this is the seascape-lovers paradise.
The cottage adjoins our house but has its own private entrance and garden area. It comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a small self-catering kitchenette (complete with a 2-ring cooker/mini oven, fridge, microwave, electric kettle, dishes, pans, cutlery, cooking utensils, etc.). There is also a washing-machine and dryer.
There is a breakfast bar nook, but please note that there is no separate dining-room or lounge.
The sea views on all sides are stunning! Puffins nest on Blind Man's Rock just off the peninsula and are clearly visible in the spring and summer. This is a bird/nature/sea-lovers paradise, and also a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
You can use the entire cottage plus the garden on the south side of the cottage (we have just seeded a lawn there!). You can explore the whole peninsula on foot. The coastal trail runs right past our property, and the beach is a 5 minute walk down the cliff path.
Interaction with guests
One of us is around most of the time (in the A-frame next door) if you need anything, can't find anything, or have general questions.
Other things to note
Our driveway is an undeveloped farm road so if driving, be prepared for a rugged last bit, though well worth it for the remote location and stunning beauty.
We have dogs who might occasionally bark if they hear voices they don't recognise!
There is a self-catering kitchenette and breakfast bar but no separate dining/living room.
This is a vegetarian establishment, so please no meat or fish in the house. Thank you. Also, please remove outside shoes when you enter. It's a good idea to bring a pair of warm socks or slippers :). Out of respect for other guests, no loud music or other media.
