This 18th century cottage sits atop this stunning coastal peninsular that once formed the thriving fishing community of Old Castle Slains. Nestled in the shadow of the 13th century castle ruin this is the seascape-lovers paradise.

The space

The cottage adjoins our house but has its own private entrance and garden area. It comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a small self-catering kitchenette (complete with a 2-ring cooker/mini oven, fridge, microwave, electric kettle, dishes, pans, cutlery, cooking utensils, etc.). There is also a washing-machine and dryer.
There is a breakfast bar nook, but please note that there is no separate dining-room or lounge.
The sea views on all sides are stunning! Puffins nest on Blind Man's Rock just off the peninsula and are clearly visible in the spring and summer. This is a bird/nature/sea-lovers paradise, and also a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Guest access

You can use the entire cottage plus the garden on the south side of the cottage (we have just seeded a lawn there!). You can explore the whole peninsula on foot. The coastal trail runs right past our property, and the beach is a 5 minute walk down the cliff path.

Interaction with guests

One of us is around most of the time (in the A-frame next door) if you need anything, can't find anything, or have general questions.

Other things to note

Our driveway is an undeveloped farm road so if driving, be prepared for a rugged last bit, though well worth it for the remote location and stunning beauty.

We have dogs who might occasionally bark if they hear voices they don't recognise!
There is a self-catering kitchenette and breakfast bar but no separate dining/living room.

The location of this property is unique, and is worth considering on your travels along the North East Coast of Scotland. It was cosy with enough room to accommodate our family of 4. Vishnu's suggestions were gratefully received. It's worth noting that the kitchen is better suited to heating or very basic cooking, and you are some distance away from eateries. Waking to the sound of the sea and gulls and the vistas from both sides of the cottage was a wonderful experience.

This is a very special place. The ancient home of the Hay family. A beautiful wee peninsula surrounded by the sea. Absolutely beautiful. Vishnu and Rebecca are perfect hosts. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back one day. :)

The beauty and seclusion of this gem is beyond what you could imagine. If you love majestic beautiful landscapes than this is the place for you. We were in awe from the second we stepped out of the car and we were we still taking pictures of the beauty as we were leaving! You must take the 30 minute walk into Collieston, it is a gorgeous journey along the coast and the views are spectacular!

A wonderful little corner of the world with raw beauty on the ocean. The hosts are kind, and the place is simple, clean and perfect. Highly recommended, and would definitely return.

This location is fantastic! It's well worth the ride to arrive! Thanks so much for offering such a place, Vishnu! The stars at night were incredible!

We love the ocean, solitude and nature, but it is wonderful, too, to meet people from all over who want to know the edge of the world.
