Baile Ui Fhuaruisce or Ballyhoorisky is a
townland in the Irish Gaeltacht and its English translation is ‘Cold Water Town’. Surrounded by dozens of beaches, swim locations and surf spots, it is the embodiment of the wild Irish coastline.
Our cosy modern cottage, with its sea-views and barrel, glass-walled sauna, will offer you a chance to enjoy one of the most beautiful corners of Ireland. Our large cosy sitting room, with its two large box windows, makes the most of this stunning location.
The space
This is a newly-refurbished, stylish seaside cottage.
Sitting room - dining room:
A spacious sitting room / dining room, with two large box windows, offers views out over the wild North Atlantic sea where one can sit and watch swell roll around Ballyhoorisky point. Facing NNW, this is where sunsets, bird murmurations and even the Northern Lights can be seen sitting in the comfort of a stove-heated room.
Kitchen:
Our modern kitchen in this remote corner of Ireland, will cater for all your needs, which includes a Sage Barista coffee machine.
Bedrooms:
Two bedrooms, each with a double bed, are accessed off a wide hall.
One bathroom:
A new bath and shower have been inserted in a yellow-and-white tiled bathroom, to heat up after any sea-swims. Washing machine accessed in the bathroom.
Shed:
Drying machine, sauna equipment, Gas-fuelled large Weber gas-BBQ, gas cylinder for the BBQ, patio chairs.
Outside house:
A large garden is on the sea-view side of the house, with a patio just off the kitchen, accessed through double doors, where BBQs can be facilitated. A large driveway can comfortably accommodate 3-4 cars. Gate to drive way to keep animals out / prevent pets from wandering.
Sauna:
Glass-walled custom-built barrel sauna, made from Estonian cedar wood. Electricity powered and warm 60-90 minutes. Views over the North Atlantic.
Guest access
Entire house, including the sauna.
Other things to note
Beaches:
Several minutes walk to the nicest beaches in Ireland. Port na Ling beach, Ballyhiernan beach and multiple un-named swim spots (look at the map-view on Google Maps) surround the house. High-tide and low-tide swims spots, for all wind and swell-directions will ensure a safe and enjoyable swim, year-round.

Pizza (seasonal) at The Lighthouse Tavern. Restaurants in the nearby villages below. We would recommend Fisk in Downings.

- The post-office at Ballylar is a few minutes away - can buy basic groceries and get ice-cream here
- McAteer’s Hardware Store in Shannagh is near the post office - inside it has everything known to man!
- The village of Tamney has a garage and a basic shop.
