Nestled in the leafy foothills of Adelaide, and only 20 minutes to the beach or the city, Hills Retreat is a great place to unwind after a day out. Close to wineries, Glenelg beach, Hahndorf, Belair National Park, Flinders University, public transport & gateway to the hills of Adelaide. Fully self-contained with kitchen, bathroom, queen bed, AC/heating, washing machine & wireless internet.

The space

A private granny flat at the rear of a residential property. Private entrance, free covered parking and lots of space to breathe. Enjoy the trees and birds. Short drive to parks, beach and shops. Tea and coffee provided.

Guest access

Outdoor pool available in warmer months (usually late Oct - early April). Washing machine and clothes line available for guests.
Port-a-cot, high chair, and hairdryer available on request.
When using free Wi-Fi, guests agree to agree to use it only for legal purposes and promise not to use it for illegal uploading, downloading, or other illegal activities.

Interaction with guests

My husband and I live on the property, and can assist with any queries.

Other things to note

Every Friday morning at 8am there is the sound of a distant siren. Don't panic (it sounds a bit like an old war siren), it is just testing time for the local fire warning system.

ACCESSIBILITY: There are 6 stairs, with a handrail, within the flat (between the studio room and the bathroom). To access the entrance to the flat you will need to walk uphill for about 10m.

Everything went very well ! We are in Adelaide since nearly two months now and we did different BnB (3 others), they were good too, but this one is the best we have done ! The flat is really good, there is everything we need, it's comfortable and pleasant. It's also the first time there is a recycling bin in the flat (usually, we have to "make" one) and all products are environmentally friendly (toilet paper, shower gel, shampoo, etc..) , which we particularly appreciated ! The bed is perfect, the shower is great, Internet works very well... Everything is really good. Kirsten, the host, is very nice. She totally respect our privacy but is very available if we need anything or if we have a question. The place is very relaxing, in a quiet garden, with the song of the birds. Really enjoyable :) We even extended our stay for a week, and if we were not leave Adelaide, we probably would have stayed here. We recommend this accommodation without hesitation, it is totally worth the price ! :) Maëva & Vincent

We were very comfortable at Kirsten's place and would definitely stay there again. The studio is self contained and very close to central Blackwood and the train station. It is nice and quiet. The bed is very comfortable and the place very clean and tidy. Although there is no stove as such we had the use of a large electric frying pan which suited us fine and we used it at least once a day. Either Kirsten or Marcus were available if we needed to know anything. It was most useful to have the use of a washing machine too. They have a lovely heated pool which our grandchildren were given permission to use. We would highly recommend their place to stay at and we lived staying there. There is a friendly magpie who loves to be fed if you so wish.

Kirsten and Marcus created the perfect hideaway; be it for pleasure or work. I travelled to Adelaide for work and, I can't tell you how much I looked forward to getting home at the end of the day. The cottage is clean and neat. With so many windows the country light illuminates the space, and on the other side you're hugged by the surrounding trees. Both Kirsten and Marcus are inviting, kind and attentive hosts. What I'm trying to say is; book it! I couldn't have been happier.

Kirsten & Marcus were very hospitable, Kirsten was there to welcome me on arrival. The location is great, very quiet & private. I only had breakfast there, but the basic kitchen would allow some simple meals. The room was very clean with nice bathroom supplies. I loved the location, lovely garden outlook, in a beautiful part of Adelaide. Was an easy drive to Westfield at Marion, Glenelg beach & the CBD. The local bakery was great, went there twice! Overall, this is great value!

Staying at Hillside Retreat in the Adelaide Hills was a wonderfully relaxing, the area is lovely, with easy access for exploring the city, Hahndorf, wineries and more. The flat was spotless and the bed wonderfully comfortable, and everything there despite a limited kitchen, made for an easy stay. Garden and trees, bird song in the morning and even a koala somewhere nearby. Thank you Kirsten.

Kirsten's studio was a fantastic base to explore the Adelaide Hills though it was hard to get out of bed with such a beautiful garden outlook! It was very clean and comfortable and we managed to cook a few meals even though it's not a full kitchen. We would definitely recommend this place.

I love travelling, camping and meeting new people. My favourite places in Australia are the Flinders Ranges, Uluru, Kakadu National Park, Eungella National Park, Whitehaven beach, beautiful beaches off the coast of Yorke Peninsula, and Sydney Harbour. I love living in little old Adelaide as it is surrounded by amazing destinations; beaches, the outback, and the hills. Everything is so accessible, affordable and beautiful. I enjoy hosting as I get to hear lots of different travel stories.
