Come stay in our beautiful lakefront home on Suncook Lake. Very few houses get rented on this gem of a lake and our house, which has 200 feet of lake front, contains water views from every room. Comfortable and homey, we only rent our cottage one week a year when we go on vacation. Come and experience New Hampshire at its best - summer lake time. You will leave rejuvenated and refreshed.
Disconnect from chaos and city life and find your center and balance while staying at our lovely home on pristine Suncook Lake. Lovely Suncook Lake is a non-touristy jewel and is a mile long and a mile wide. The water is clear and refreshing and perfect to take out our double canoe, single kayak, or rowboat. We will leave life vests (which are mandatory for all water sports.) Paddle around Lower Suncook or take a longer paddle to Upper Suncook with its round topped mountains and green forests tumbling into the shore. We have a 15 foot dock and a beach launch so feel free to bring your own motor boat. You must have a New Hampshire license to operate a motorboat over 25 hp. Our cottage has all the comforts of home and a 180 degree view of the lake that will soothe your mind and body. Barnstead is located in the Lakes Region of southern New Hampshire, and Suncook Lake is one of its pristine jewels. We both love to garden so you will find flowers in many rocky nooks and a vegetable and herb garden in front of the house. Feel free to help yourself to whatever is fresh. The yard and flowers add to the serene ambiance both day and night. Maybe you will even spot the bald eagles which live on the lake. Every night you will hear the lonely call of the pair of loons which call Suncook their home.
If it's fishing you're after, than throw a hook right off our shore to try your best at catching a rainbow trout, small and largemouth bass, pickerel, horned pout or white & yellow perch.
We have several places to sit near the lake: the breakfast nook, the double sunset chair, a hammock, and a fire pit with cut birch log drink tables and adirondack chairs to cozy up in and watch the stars. Sit by the lakeside fire pit and roast marshmallows, or warm up while watching the myriad of shooting stars.
Please remember to bring your own firewood for the fire pit. You can pick up firewood along rt. 28. Many people sell bundles for $4-5. :).
The cottage has two bedrooms and a sleeping loft with two twin beds. The master bedroom has a queen bed and sliding glass doors with a stunning view of the lake. You can watch the sun rise without getting out of bed. The second bedroom has two twin beds and a queen-size bed. We also have a sleeping loft, which is over the dining room. It has two small twin beds. You must climb a ladder to reach this room. The kitchen is well-stocked for all your needs. We have a brand new gas BBQ for you to use. We also have a washer and dryer. There are two bathrooms, one with a full bathtub and one with stand up shower.
If you can pry yourself away from the serenity of the lake, Barnstead is nearby Gunstock Mountain, which has an amazing Treetops Adventure and Zipline course open in the summer. Canterbury Shaker Village is only a half hour away. There are many great hikes in and around Lake Winnepausakee and Mt. Washington, which is the highest peak in the northeast and is fewer than two hours away. And Maine is only an hour or more away.
This rental is great for families :). Please note that you will need a car to get to the house.
Please note that there is no cleaning fee. Leave the house as you found it! Clean the kitchen, bathrooms, and floors. Wash and dry all linens and towels and, please, remake the beds.
Super important! You MUST take all your garbage with you, recyclables as well all other garbage. You can bring it to the Pittsfield dump: 115 Laconia Road, Route 107, Pittsfield. You must separate all garbage into plastic, tin and aluminum metal, glass, and regular garbage.
You have access to the house, the entire yard, the dock, the private beach, and the beautiful lake.

Other things to note
Outside: The Lake and Yard
We will leave you some big tubes, flippers, a double canoe, and a single kayak to use. You can paddle up to Upper Suncook, about a mile away. Make a right on the lake and follow the shore, to the end of Lower Suncook, go down the small channel, under the bridge, and emerge on 2 mile long, magnificent Upper Suncook. The lake is bounded by Camp Fatima and the Belknap mountains in the north, and a wooded town preserve on the west part of the lake. This lake is deep, over 40 feet near Camp Fatima. There is a rope swing located near the lower western shore. It requires quite a bit of upper body strength!
We love our neighbors, and they care about our home and the community. Please - no parties or loud music. Quiet after 10pm during the week and 11pm on the weekends.
Do not swim without a spotter - someone in a canoe or kayak who paddles close to you and can alert boats to your presence. It is illegal and dangerous to swim 75 feet from shore without a spotter. Boats may not see you.
You must wear life vests when on the canoe or kayak. Marine patrol is sometimes on the lake and will give you a ticket.
Please bring your own firewood for the fire pit. Do not use the stacked wood. It's for our wood for our indoor fireplace in the winter. We buy it and stack it and do not use it for the outdoor fire pit. Do not leave the fire burning unattended.
Use only liquid detergent in the dishwasher and washing machine. Otherwise the line will get clogged requiring a costly plumbing fix. Please do not overpack the washing machine and bring your own detergent and washing soap.
Do not rearrange the kitchen cabinets or table arrangements or furniture.
