Set in 50-acres of rural tranquility and part of the Swanaford Estate vineyard, this cosy 1-bed thatched cottage is on the eastern edge of Dartmoor National Park. Renovated in 2017, it is perfect for couples to escape to the country. There is a large double bedroom with countryside views, a modern bathroom, cosy sitting room with Sky TV and a woodburner and a quirky kitchen/diner. Rose Cottage is surrounded by great walks, good pubs, a short drive from the coast and 7 miles from Exeter.

The space

A lovely cosy, thatched cottage for 2 people set in the beautiful Teign Valley. Downstairs: a fully equipped quirky kitchen/diner leads into a comfortable sitting room with squidgy sofas to sink into whilst enjoying the woodburner or watching Sky TV.
Heading up the original C17 staircase (please not it's quite steep and uneven) leads to a large double bedroom with uninterrupted views of the countryside. The new bath suite has a good bath with a shower over it.

Guest access

The cottage has it's own small garden with table and chairs, perfect for a glass of wine on a sunny evening. There is parking directly outside the cottage and it is accessed by its own drive off the main road, shared with the next door cottage.

Interaction with guests

We live in nearby Swanaford House and are available for questions or problems anytime

Other things to note

Please note the staircase is the original one, the cottage is listed, so it is steep and uneven.

If you want peace and quiet in a cottage full of character, then this is for you. This cottage is really comfortable with stunning views and a lovely garden space to sit in. We felt so relaxed being in this beautiful house in a stunning location. The kitchen was really well equipped for preparing meals but the surrounding pubs all offer great food too.

The photos give a good impression, this is a lovely traditional cottage, sympathetically restored and decorated, full of character. Very quiet location, ideal for exploring Dartmoor. We found it a great place for a weekend getaway and thoroughly recommend it.

An idylic cottage nestled in the countryside. It was the perfect base to use for our mini break. We were attending a wedding at the Great Barn and it was a great place to be able to retreat too. It was so cosy and we loved the beauitful views.

Caroline came over after we arrived with jam, clotted cream, and homemade scones! Beautiful little cottage. Very very quiet. Wonderful wood-burning stove. Great location including a picnic area at the river. My husband was happy when he caught a nice trout. Lots of deer locally.

We found the cottage darker and smaller than we thought although not misleading in the description. The kitchen in particular was badly lit and not very well equipped at all e.g. no tea pot and no large pans and no microwave. There was no radio but a very large TV with Sky. The cottage felt damp although we understand this is an issue with cottages of this age. We found the mattress of the bed to be too soft , for our tastes and not very good quality. The surrounding area is pretty and the river is very close by.
