Chris is an awesome host. I made a really last minute reservation in the middle of the night, but Chris was quick to respond and had me all set for the following day. He had Todd welcome me when I arrived and show me around. The house is massive and acts somewhat like a co - op with a really open atmosphere. Chris told me more than once not to barricade myself in my room and feel free to hang out downstairs. The house is creaky but has a ton of character, the location is fantastic and only a 7 minute drive from Cobo. I wouldn't walk around in the neighborhood alone though, you can catch a bus from right down the street. The room is pretty bare though, but that's expected with the price you're paying. If you're OCD about cleanliness like I am, I would suggest bringing all your stuff with you including: flip flops, toothpaste, soap/shampoo, clorox wipes, tissues etc. All in all, good place to just crash and Chris is really hospitable and accommodating.

Great location (and historic block) for exploring the city, by bike or car, and Chris is very helpful. There are often other interesting guests as well. The house once belonged to the manager of Gladys Knight who lived across the street (now an empty lot, but with nice flowers planted by Chris).

Chris's home was just what I needed for a quick jaunt to Detroit: a clean, quiet room with lots of space. I unfortunately didn't get to talk to Chris because I had to book it back to Cleveland in the morning but I'd definitely book again on my next, hopefully longer visit to Detroit.

The house was in a good location; right off Woodward and not far from downtown. The house was messy (mainly the kitchen and bathroom) but otherwise roomy and the residents were nice. Not bad for a quick stop.

I am a lighting designer, decided to vacation in Detroit. Great city, I enjoyed it to the fullest. This house was centrally located and made it easy to get to downtown/ or anywhere pretty much. Nice and quiet place. Love them fireflies right outside in the porch. I had a great time, I most definitely would go back and stay there with Chris!

Chris was helpful, friendly and super kind. His home is very clean and right near the bus stop. We had a great time visiting Detroit. We'd like to go back next year.

It was a great stay! I needed a last minute place to stay and Chris responded right away. It was a pretty hot day when I went and Chris brought out a fan for me. It was early in the season, so I think maybe later in the season the house will have gotten its cooling rhythm down. Everything was very comfortable and I enjoyed sitting on the couch on the porch. The art was also cool!

I have been a public radio journalist for 25 years. I am used to meeting new people and learning about new things every day. I reported on farmland preservation, public transit and fixing up old buildings. I have four houses now and I do most of the work myself. For seven years I watched as New York City got fixed up. For another seven I traveled through twenty African countries and don't know how to fix them. But we're making progress on parts of Detroit. Have four kids. Love food and music.
