The space

Named in the Sunday Times (Travel) as one of 'Top 20 Places for the Summer in UK or Ireland' 2012!

Note - this listing has 'live' and correct availability - you can book instantly - no need to enquire if there is availability - the calendar is correct :)

Croaghacullion is a traditional Donegal coastal cottage that enjoys a remarkable secluded position overlooking Lougheraherk (lake) in this, the most traditional and picturesque part of Ireland. You get the whole cottage, in 3/4 acre of land overlooking a lake. Glencolmcille village (shops, great pubs with traditional music, Folk Museum, cafes, is a 13 minute drive).

The cottage sits in the heart of the Irish-speaking Gaeltacht in what is probably the most traditional area of Ireland. You can walk down to the beach from the cottage and you're unlikely to see another tourist, maybe just a lobster fisherman or one of the friendly, farmer neighbours. See more photos of this Donegal cottage. Just sitting on the bench in front can be lovely - you can usually hear the waves from the other side of the mountain.

Stay here to discover one of the most remarkable and beautiful landscapes in Ireland - we doubt you'll ever find better beaches than can be found locally, friendlier people, or such a sense of wilderness. These photos show the walk down to Port beach from the cottage, which feels like the very edge of Europe (9 times out of 10 you'll have the whole bay to yourself), or sit at home and enjoy the views over 'your' lough (lake).

Pets welcome - ask they are never allowed on sofas or beds please. Great place for dogs - enlcosed garden and miles of open mountain walking from the door, with fabulous beaches near.

Guest access

A detached lakeside cottage and about an acre of land, with direct access to open-mountain walking.

Pets - we welcome well behaved pets and a maximum of 2, there is a surcharge of €20 for 1 dog, €30 total for 2 - payable after arrival.

It is VERY important that pets are kept on leads when they are not in the garden, there are loose sheep on the roads and mountainside. I have a dog myself and I know from experience that most dog owners are very careful - thank you!

Thank you for leaving the cottage tidy. I don't expect you to clean but do wash up etc and leave in a reasonable state for Mary, thanks. Great if you can strip the bedsheets to help her after, thanks.

Very cosy cottage beautifully decorated and furnished. It is a great escape from it all. Beautiful scenic position and somewhere to totally relax and recharge your batteries. Just make sure and pack everything you need as it's a bumpy drive to the local shop if you need milk. The only problems we had were with the wifi - we could get connected but could not access anything which was frustrating as we were trying to keep updated on the weather and the onset of hurricane Ophelia. Also had trouble lighting the fire without kindling and once we'd lit the little fire in the living room we had to let it go out again as the room was so smoky the alarm went off. These matters aside we would still recommend the cottage for a stay and would love to return in better weather to make use of the bikes and head off for a cycle around the area to the explore further.

This is a dream of a place. We felt at the end of the world and absolutely loved it. Everything was top notch and the decor and attention to details are stunning. Will definitely come back again !

This cottage is wonderful. It's warm & quiet and is a much needed retreat from a noisy world. You can spend days walking the local area (Port) & everywhere you look is beautiful. Greg has lots of books to enjoy while there but also a Dvd player (& dvds). There is lots to see in Donegal & it is a lovely place to come back to after touring. Our dogs loved it & were exhausted every evening - the garden is fenced in but if your dogs are interested in chasing sheep they could get (URL HIDDEN) watch them. The cottage is everything that is shown, stated in the description. Mary is lovely, we seen nobody for the 4 days we stayed while at the cottage & only a few while out & about the area. Leaving the cottage was a sad moment but we will probably return as still a lot to see in Donegal.

Absolutely beautiful place. We stayed for a long weekend but it wasn't enough as there is so much to see and do. Next time we will book in for an extra few days. Looking forward to it already.

We had a fantastic four nights in Greg's quirky and historic cottage. Its remoteness is arguably its chief attraction - you really do feel as if you are squirrelled away in a hidden corner of Ireland. The peace and tranquility is really something else (as our the pitch black night skies). At the same time, it's a perfect place for exploring southern Donegal and for doing some great walks/treks. We hope to return in the future.

Gorgeous cottage in a very scenic and quiet location. Definitely a place to stay if you need to truly get away. The cottage was very comfortable and clean. Lots of lovely walks and day trips around the area. A real haven, we will definitely be back.
