Bookeen Hall is a 200 year old restored church about 20 mins from Galway City and within easy reach of the Cliffs of Moher, The Burren and Connemara. We are a short drive from Lignum (restaurant).

We offer a private room (with 1 king size bed and 1 single bed) with a private bathroom. For larger groups there is a second room (with 1 king size bed), so we can accommodate up to 5. The nearest train station is 8 miles away in Athenry. We live here with our dogs and look forward to meeting you!

Staying at Bookeen Hall – A Few Things to Know Before You Book

We would love to welcome you to Bookeen Hall and hope you enjoy a relaxed and comfortable stay with us.

There are just a few things we feel it is important to mention so that you know what to expect before booking. Bookeen Hall is our home, and we live here throughout your stay. We are happy to give you your space and privacy, while also being around if you need anything or would like local recommendations.

We also have two very friendly dogs, Bird & Petey, who love to say hello. However, if you are not comfortable around dogs, they can be kept completely separate.

We do not have kitchen or cooking facilities for guests, but we are delighted to provide you with breakfast each morning.

We also service your room daily, so you can return to a fresh and welcoming space each day.

Bookeen Hall
A protected building and national monument, Bookeen Hall is a former Church of Ireland Chapel built in 1820. Part of the Dunsandle estate, the church was used for services by the estate’s Church of Ireland congregation. Built in stone, the rectangular hall with its large gothic windows and solid bell-tower can be seen across fields and woodland, making it a distinctive and well known local landmark.

It was deconsecrated in 1920 and 200 years after it was built it was given a new lease of life and converted into a two bedroom home.

Inside the interiors are bright, open and contemporary. The church is comprised of a large open plan living/dining room and two bedrooms. The guest bedroom available to visitors has access to its own bell tower/reading room with great views of the surrounding countryside and private bathroom complete with claw-foot bathtub. The guest room has a king size bed and a single bed and can accommodate three people.

Bookeen Hall is situated on the edge of Dunsandle wood which has some great walking and running routes, which your hosts, both keen runners, would be happy to show you. Quiet and peaceful, it is surrounded by woodland, and fields full of cattle and sheep.

Easily accessible by car, Bookeen Hall is just 2 mins from the Dublin / Galway motorway (Dublin airport is 2 hours away); about 1 hour from Shannon airport; a 20 min drive from beautiful Galway city; and located just a 10/15 min drive from the neighbouring towns of Athenry, Loughrea and Craughwell, all of which have a good selection of cafes, restaurants, and bars.

The church is ideally located for day trips to Connemara and the Cliffs of Moher and Burren region.

We are also a short drive from Lignum (restaurant).

Enjoy our home baking with tea/coffee when you arrive and a continental breakfast each morning. We are happy to cater for all dietary requirements but please let us know any allergies or preferences in advance.
