Location

Seneca Rocks, West Virginia, United States

Seneca Rocks is quite literally in the middle of nowhere. It is a very small town nestled in the mountains of West Virginia. There are many points of interest in the area, but to see these places please expect to do some mountain driving while you are here.

In the town of Seneca Rocks, which is about 4 miles from the barn there are 2 stores with souvenirs and limited grocery items. There is a newly opened Subway restaurant, plus a couple local places to eat, but the choices are pretty limited. There are the rocks, with a hiking trail to the top. There is also a swimming hole in the river at the base of the rocks.

The following places are popular among visitors, including driving times from the barn:
Dolly Sods (45 minutes) (great hiking)
Spruce Knob (40 minutes) (highest point in WV, great hiking)
Blackwater Falls (45 minutes) (hiking, point of interest)
Seneca Caverns (15 minutes)
Smoke Hole Caverns (15 minutes)
Davis/Thomas (45 minutes) (the nearest bars/nightlife, and best restaurants are here)
Canaan Valley (25 minutes) (hiking, mountain biking, skiing)

I grew up in Michigan, and finally settled down in Seneca Rocks, WV in 2010, after many years of traveling and living abroad. I was initially drawn to Seneca Rocks for rock climbing, but have since retired my harness and climbing shoes. I fell in love with the area for its remoteness, scenic beauty, and local charm. After spending a summer here, I sort of impulsively decided to buy land and build a house. I hired my new friend Chris to build the house, which we did entirely on our own, while living on the property throughout the 18 month process. The property already had the barn on it, which we went on to renovate after the house was finished. A few years later Chris & I got married, and the rest is history! These days I mostly enjoy hiking with the dogs and working on the landscaping of the property, which is a continuous work in progress. Chris is also often working on something in his shop, or messing with his honey bees. We are both very happy to have you!

During your stay
The barn is situated next door to my house. If I'm home I'm happy to answer questions or help with any problems, but I typically leave guests alone, and sometimes don't see them at all. I do feed the animals first thing every morning, so you may run into me then. My husband, Chris, is also happy to answer questions or help with anything if you see him around the property. Also please note, I do not own cell phone (my phone number is a landline). Shocking, I know! But that means I do not receive messages instantly. I try to check my laptop for messages regularly, but there are times when that is not possible. So I apologize if I do not respond immediately.
