You get a futon in a comfy living room area. You're nestled on a hill looking out over I-5, landmarks, and the river. The location is great for travel as well. Around the corner is a bus stop and downtown and Amtrak is a short walk.

The space

It's a basement apartment that feels warm and inviting. Full kitchen attached, bathroom is a walk through the bedroom (which you always have access to). Outside is green with antique cars. You see I-5 and over that, the river and in the distance, mountains.

Guest access

Near mass transit, the Skagit River and the park. Downtown is a short walk away.

Interaction with guests

We see each other in passing. I'm happy to show you around town if you'd like company. And you will have delicious, wholesome breakfast every morning.

Other things to note

The futon is more a one-person futon (loveseat sized rather than couch sized) and on the short side, so if you're tall, be aware.

Anita and Drew were very welcoming! I was greeted with fresh coffee and homemade muffins, and I really enjoyed chatting them. Their home was very cozy and was a nice relaxing stop during my trip up to the San Juan Islands.

Anita and Drew were warm & welcoming, their place was a quick walk from the train station and Anita's breakfast was delicious! It's a bit loud because they're close to the I-5, but otherwise was comfortable and was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much!

Anita and Drew were great hosts, and very kind. Anita came to greet me at the train station (she had offered to do that before I came, but I honestly thought she was being nice and didn't actually mean it!). On top of that she and Drew woke up the next morning at ~5am to give me breakfast, before I left to see the tulips. And they were ready to do that the next day too, but I myself didn't have the energy for it. They are superb hosts! The neighborhood is great, right next to where the tulip festival events happen and only about 3.5 miles from Roozengarde and around 5 miles from Tulip town (the only two fields open to public but you see other fields from outside much before). I couldn't see a lot of buses running on the weekend so be prepared to walk/ bike if you don't have a car (the hosts offered me a bike too!). Uber was available sometimes ~20 minutes away. But people in general seemed very nice here just like Anita and Drew, as I got two free rides from strangers and struck up some interesting conversations with people while just walking everywhere. I can't think of a single downside except that a road/ bridge is near and passing vehicles are noisy at night. Not a big issue at all unless you're a very light sleeper. The hosts and the neighborhood make up for it 5 times over.

Drew and I are a couple of curious folk with interests in sustainability and biohacking. You might call us futuristic hippies. He codes and researches. I research and design (and makes a ridiculously delicious breakfast, if I do say so myself). We both are a bit nomadic, love odd places, humanism, yummy food, biking, the idea of living forever, and have a healthy appreciation for free software and cryptography. We love good stories and sharing our home with people like you!
