Semi-detached house built 2008 in the pretty Cumbrian village of Holme. Great for the Lake District, but also for the Yorkshire Dales, and very local to Arnside & Silverdale AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) & Leighton Moss RSPB bird reserve.

The space

You will be on your own in our house, which is our second home. We bought in this location because not only is it handy for the Lake District and other beauty spots, it's also very easy to get to, with quick access to and from the M6. There is a bus from the village into the Lake District, but as you need to bring your own bed linen and towels (please see 'Other Things to Note' below!), a car is fairly essential.

Guest access

You have the whole house and garden. Space on the front drive to park your car, then downstairs there is an entrance hall, downstairs toilet, open plan kitchen/dining room with patio doors, and lounge with patio doors. Sunny garden. Upstairs Bedroom 1 has a double bed and an ensuite bathroom with shower. Bedroom 2 has two twin beds. Bedroom 3 has one single bed. House bathroom with bath.
We have a large selection of guide books, walking books and maps on our bookcase which you are welcome to use.
Bikes can be locked away in our garage.

Interaction with guests

You are quite likely not to see us unless your visit coincides with us preparing for your arrival. We make a point of always being easily accessible by phone though while you're our guests, and we always message by phone during your stay to see how you're getting on!

Other things to note

Our price is fantastic for a whole house for a family on a self-catering basis in this sought after area, and here's how we can do it.......!
We don't live locally and so we don't provide bed linen or towels - please bring your own. We provide duvet inners and pillow inners, but you need to bring bottom sheets and pillowcases, and either duvet covers or sleeping bags. Sizes to fit the double and single beds of ours you'll be using.
We can usually sort out bed linen and towels for international visitors - ask me.
Other consequences of us not living locally are that we ask you to help us by leaving it clean and tidy when you go, and very very occasionally we might have to ask you to take your rubbish to the recycling centre - it's just on the way back to the M6. But usually we can do that.

Dogs - We have dogs who shed hairs, and it is impossible to remove every last one! There will be a few dog hairs around downstairs, but this is not a reflection on the general cleanliness of the house (see Cleanliness rating below). If this would cause you a problem, this is not the property for you. We like dogs and are willing to consider taking one well behaved dog, please message me to ask if they can be accommodated.

As long as there's not a same day changeover (unlikely), you can come any time after 10am on arrival day and stay as late as 7pm on leaving day, which gives you time to do an activity on both those days. Up to two more days holiday for the same number of nights!

We stayed three nights at Christina's house. It was well located for trips up to the Lakes and Kirkby Lonsdale (great local brewery there). The house had all we needed including a good sized back garden for our Patterdale Terrier to explore in between walks around the village and further afield in the Lakes. A lovely mini break.

Fabulous modern cottage very well located for our visit to the Lake District. Lots of lovely local walks with a nice little village shop and pub. The cottage was well equipped and had plenty of room for 5 guests. It provided a cosy retreat in the evenings after a day walking in the Lakes. Also provided was an array of information about local walks, Lake District walks a supply of OS maps and a fantastic huge wall map of the Lakes in the dining room, which helped us organise our plan of action to visit all of our favourite places in a short space of time. Christina was a fantastic host really keen for everything to be as we expected and was in touch with us along the way. This cottage really was a home from home and I would not hesitate in recommending it.

We found Christina's property exactly as described and it served a family of 5 and a dog extremely well over the week that we were there. The house provided a comfortable base for us with enough room for all. Plenty of information on hand from both our hosts and previous guests so no need to be stuck for something to do. The house is situated in a quiet estate, a short walk to everywhere you need in the village. I found the nearby canal a good place to walk our young dog off his lead without much distraction. The village shop and amenities at nearby Milnthorpe were handy. Asda to the south of Kendal was ideal for a 'big' shop and cheap petrol (for the area). Be prepared to spend a lot of time in the car if you want to see plenty of the Lake District - it's at least 30 minutes to get to Bowness for example. There are other attractions closer to Holme, including a terrific chippy in Arnside, so you can make it as hectic or relaxing as you see fit. I thoroughly recommend this property.

Perfect place for visiting the Lake District. The house is very comfortable, and is fully equipped. Moreover, Christina provides tons of information on where to go, plans, visits,... so you will have all you need. Christina is always willing to help and keeps constant contact to advise and support. No doubt, this is where you have to go to visit the Lake District. Many thanks to Christina.

Good size modern family home near the Dales and the Lakes (about 30 min to Windermere); also near the M6 so also easy to get to Blackpool and other areas South or North. Peaceful location. Couldn't get a strong mobile signal so the free wifi was great for booking activities and researching places to go etc. Many thanks.
