Can't beat the serenity in this full apartment w/ kitchen, bath, bedroom and den (1,000 sq feet). Breathtaking views. Twenty minutes from the beach and seventy miles due west of Portland; this is a gem.

The space

The Extra Room is a spacious apartment overlooking the lush Tillamook Valley just off the Trask River. Tillamook is 70 miles due west of Portland on the central Oregon Coast, which is twenty minutes from Netarts, Oceanside beach, and Cape Mears, an hour & 15 minutes to Cannon Beach, 45 minutes to Pacific City, or an hour and a half to Portland and everything in between.

In town, you can visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory, Blue Heron (French Cheese, wine tasting, petting zoo), Pelican Brewing Company, De Garde brewery, the Pioneer Museum, the Farmer's Market, Latimer Textile Center to follow the quilt square tour, or head to the beach a mere 20 minute scenic drive away. We are close to fishing, clamming, kayaking, cycling, hiking, and good seafood eats. Many visitors enjoy the coastal train or rail peddler experience.

A comfy queen bed, kitchenette, and private entrance await you. In the apartment is a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dining table, shower, DirecTV, web access, and games. The queen bed is perfect for a couple and there is a fold-out futon sofa comfortable for a child or extra person. There is ample free parking and a yard, picnic table, and deck to enjoy. This is a great place to sleep in and relax. The only neighbors you may hear are the birds nesting in our trees.

Although we'd love to meet you, we travel for work and play ourselves, so in our absence, we have innkeepers.

There is a coastal bus that provides transportation from Portland, Salem and along the Oregon Coast. The bus connects to other systems on the north end of Washington and south on to California. There is also a town loop.

Although this space is all on one level with no stairs to navigate, it is not actually handi-capable because of the gravel access path to the door and no roll-in shower.

Guest access

The apartment includes one bedroom, one bathroom with shower, kitchen, dining and den, piano, yard, picnic table, deck, and driveway. The bedroom and den may be separated with a privacy curtain. In the den, we have a smart flat screen TV and a pull-out futon to accommodate a child or extra guests.

Interaction with guests

We love to visit and talk with our guests should they like. We are both still working and travel quite a bit for work and pleasure, so we are in and out and about. We are always a text message or phone call away to accommodate guests.

Other things to note

There is a full kitchen with pots, pans, mixing bowls, utensils, etc. We have a full refrigerator, oven, stove, and microwave. We have air-conditioning that we seldom need here on the coast; we'll be glad to turn it on should you like things cooler.

We do not have child safety locks on cabinets.

I still remember I was really moved by the fresh eggs and Tillamook yogurt when I open the refrigerator. Matt and Pat are so nice. They offered thoughtful tips for our short trip. About their apartment, I cannot ask for more, from cleanness to convenience. Without doubt, we will choose to live this tranquil and fairy-like place when next time come to Portland.

Response from Matt And Pat:
Thanks Xin! It was our pleasure to have you. Those eggs are from a nearby farm. The yogurt and cheese are straight from our Tillamook dairy farmers. Hope you had the ice cream too while you were in town. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

The view from Matt and Pat's garden is amazing. And it is only a 5 minute drive to Tillamook where you find everything. We enjoyed the food offered for breakfast. The place is roomy and very clean. Matt and Pat welcomed us on our arrival, very friendly hosts.

Such a beautiful location! Off the beaten path and with a wonderful view of the valley. Very special seeing the black-tailed deer browsing in the morning. The breakfast goodies were lovely. Would definitely come back.

A piece of rural heaven near the cost. We loved being surrounded by beautiful green mountains and awakening to the sounds of animals down the hill. We saw several deer and a humming bird on the property during our morning breakfast and evening beer. The house is in a great location to access many of the amazing sights along the coast. We would highly recommend anyone come stay at this beautiful apartment!

Matt and Pats place is really beautiful - peaceful and calm. Great Tv options if you want to spend the evening curled up on the sofa. Really helpful hosts. Location was great - the ocean in one direction and the Wilson river in the other. Very comfortable apartment with well stocked kitchen and breakfast stuff left for our first morning. Thanks Matt and Pat

This is a lovely home away from home, on a secluded little hill in Tillamook. It was very convenient for everything we wanted to see; we used back roads and avoided Hwy 101. We easily drove to the beaches we wanted to visit, then enjoyed coming back to our little secluded apartment. The apartment is so cozy, and Matt and Pat provided so many little extras that it felt like home. There were snacks and cookies, coffee and tea, a fully-equipped kitchen, and even breakfast waiting for us! The bed and futon were very comfy, so we slept very well. Being away from the highways, it is very peaceful; your nearest neighbors are the wildlife and birds. We had a hummingbird sitting and talking to us as we made breakfast. Matt and Pat also provide a nice list of recommended places to visit in the area, as well as their opinions on area restaurants. Our family had a wonderful time and plans to return.
