The space
This apartment is perfectly located for your Tamarindo vacation. Casa de Arroz is one of Tamarindo's older Colonial style homes and it is ideally located 300 meters (3 blocks) to the beach and literally steps away from grocery stores, restaurants & nightlife!! Our apartments are so centrally located that there is simply no need for a rental car. Absolutely everything is just a short walk away! We also have beach cruiser bikes available on a first come first serve basis if you want explore town on 2 wheels! The best part of our house is that it's tucked away on a small hill at the end of a quiet street, just far enough away from the action of town. Our yard has trees full of howler monkeys, iguanas, hummingbirds and butterflies. We love our monkey friends but be warned, that noise that sounds like a lion…it's coming from them!

Casa de Arroz is one of Tamarindo's original homes that contains 4 recently updated studio apartments. We provide everything you need for a short trip or a longer stay. Each unit has a pillow-top queen size bed, as well as a full size futon couch. This makes them perfect for friends traveling together or small families. Every apartment has AC, hot water, WIFI, a ceiling fan, beach towels and chairs, a cooler, an eating area for two, and a safe. This studio is located on the ground floor with easy access to the garden area with a large Barbecue and dinner table as well as patio furniture to relax in.

Explore local foods, including tropical produce, and be kind to your budget by taking advantage of the fully equipped kitchen. You'll find everything you need to cook with a full size fridge, a stove with an oven, utensils, pots & pans as well as drink and dinnerware for 4. We stock each kitchen with the cooking basics, including salt, pepper, oil, sugar, tea, and delicious Costa Rican coffee. We also have a BBQ area, which is an excellent spot to grill freshly caught seafood and dine alfresco. Or just relax and enjoy the cool shade in one of the locally made hammocks.

At Casa de Arroz we typically provide daily cleaning service, however, due to Covid we only clean during your stay upon request. We try to be very conscious of the environment and the current water shortage so fresh towels and clean sheets are provided twice per week. We have laundry facilities on the property that you are welcome to use at your convenience ($2 per load includes detergent). Please help us conserve energy by watching water usage and turning off AC units when not in use.

Tamarindo is a fun surfer town with lots of restaurants and nightlife to choose from. Our beach is one of the longest, most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica and is perfect for beach walks. It is also located near many other surf breaks which makes it a great hub if you are on a surf vacation. Tamarindo has a little something for everyone so it the ideal choice for your Costa Rican adventure.
Casa de Arroz is located 150 meters (1.5 blocks) from the center of town but on a dead end street up a small hill. The house itself is surrounded by tropical jungle, which creates a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

We met in Tamarindo in 2012, Katie having been in Costa Rica since 2003, and Happy since 2010. In 2015 we bought and renovated Casa de Arroz. We have been building our property management company and hosting on Airbnb since then! In 2020 we decided to open the “HandleBar” located in down town Tamarindo. Specializing in bicycles, craft beer and wine, we dedicated to helping tourists and locals use bicycles as their primary transportation! Because there’s no better way to see the local community than on a bike!

We live on the property but separate from the guest area. We are available if you need our help or recommendations but we like to respect our guest’s privacy. Whether you need transportation from the airport or are interested in tours or surf lessons, we can help book them all. We will send you a list of available activities with the confirmation of your booking so you can start planning. Having lived in Tamarindo for many years and worked in the local tourism industry, we are happy to help make this your dream vacation.

We do have pets on the property (2 dogs & 3 cats), although they don’t have regular access to the guest area. But, if you are missing your furry friends you are more than welcome to play with ours!
