The space

The entire house, the side patio and the woodland lane (which has a walkers' right of way) is yours to enjoy. Consider it your 'Home from home'. The patio may be used for private parking if you wish, but usually we leave the car on the road outside as the house at the end of the lane where there is no passing traffic.

Guest access

All of the space mentioned above is yours to enjoy.

Interaction with guests

As I mentioned already, I may not be available to greet you on your arrival but I am usually just a phone call away and I have a friend locally who will be happy to help out if you have a problem.

The neighbourhood

A good place to start is simply to take a walk around the town. You will be surprised by the no. and variety of excellent, locally owned restaurants, cafes, pubs and real shops providing, literally, everything, from a needle to an anchor for the people of Bantry and the surrounding farms and villages. The Bantry town fair, on every Friday morning is a 'must see'; a place where local artisan food producers proudly display their produce side by side with booksellers, bric-a- brac stalls, even fortune tellers in a riot of colour and good humour. For the sporty there is golf, fishing, a gym and horse-riding. Bantry is also a great place for walking. The scenery of West Cork and Kerry is renowned for its gentle hills and valleys, beautiful, out of the way beaches, colourful villages and frequent festivals.
We are well aware that the weather is not always great here. This is Ireland after all, so there is plenty to do. The Westlodge Hotel, just on the edge of the town has a swimming pool where day guests are welcomed.

Getting around

There are regular bus services to Cork City and to other surrounding areas.
Usually a hired car is a good idea as some of the best areas to visit such as Sheep's Head and the Mealach Valley are inaccessible except by car. If you prefer not to drive, hackney drivers are also usually available. Enquire locally for details.

Other things to note

The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking and serving your own food.
There are additional bed clothes and towels in the wardrobes.
Shampoo and shower gel are provided.

I can't praise Maureen's place and her hosting skills enough! We were met on time, taken to the house and shown how the heating etc worked. It was home from home! We had brought toiletries etc but Maureen had provided these plus cooking oil sauces washing powder etc for those who didn't. Location was fantastic right in town centre with a side yard for kids to play safely, house was warm and cosy free wifi was handy and bedrooms spacious. We will Definately stay again thank you Maureen

My stay at Maureen's house was excellent. Perfect for three couples. Very close to the square in Bantry.

Maureen's house was absolutely perfect - clean, spacious, bright and sunny. The kitchen is well-equipped and it was so nice to have the washer and dryer given the wet weather at the time. The house is very central and only a minute or so from a beautiful walk along the sea, pubs, the Tourist info centre, the market on Fridays and more. We were able to do everything on foot. We arrived later than expected but were met with a warm welcome from Robert who guided us from the nearby church to the house and then showed us around the house. We hope to come back!

I am a retired teacher, an author and a therapist.
I enjoy my work, having retired from full-time teaching to do other things.
Between work and spending time with family and friends, including two grandchildren, life can be very busy. Sometimes it can be difficult to find time for travel, my other love. When I do get away I often head for Barcelona where I have many friends.
