Belém is a microcosm of Lisbon's Age of Discovery history. First, we go to the statue of Christ the King to see the whole of Lisbon, then to the Tower of Belém, which was once the last stop for ships before setting sail. We then go to the riverside to see the monument commemorating the Age of Discovery, and then we enter the Jerónimos Monastery to appreciate the exquisite details of the Manueline architecture. Finally, we must go to the century-old shop to taste a freshly baked, still-warm Portuguese egg tart. This is the most soothing moment of the whole trip.
