MACOMO is named after "Makomo (true bamboo)". It is a plant of the Poaceae family that grows in colonies along the water's edge and is also called "Makomodake". Because it has a purifying effect on soil and water, it has been called "the grass where the gods dwell" and "the grass of fate" since ancient times, and is considered a sacred plant. It is used as a mat (mushiro) and a tool for purification in Shinto rituals such as at Izumo Taisha Shrine. We hope you have a pleasant trip to this inn. When you pass through the tunnel of autumn leaves (maple), the inn surrounded by trees appears, and the surroundings are very quiet. It is an area where birds (woodpeckers, cuckoos, thrushes, etc.) and animals (flying foxes, foxes, deer, hares, etc.) coexist and thrive. Please forget your daily worries and relax so that the birds are not startled. The tap water at Macomo comes from the beautiful water source of Shioi Shrine. The water is so popular that locals come to draw it, and you can use it safely for cooking and bathing, as well as drinking. Feel the abundance of nature! 160-year-old renovated kominka house. 2300 m² site, 170 m² building.

We renovated a 160-year-old traditional house in 2023. The total site is 700 tsubo (2300 m ²), and the building is 170 m ², making it very spacious. While it is an 8-minute drive to Kumamoto Castle, it is a cottage where you can relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle. The garden is full of trees and flowers, including a large camphor tree that has been there for over 160 years, black pines, Japanese maples, and bamboo forests, so you can enjoy the trees and flowers in all seasons. The host lives in the adjacent building, so you can feel at home. Take a big, deep breath and refresh yourself from the heart. ●Here’s what you need to know · There are many mosquitoes and insects because there is a garden with many trees. If you don't like insects, it may be difficult to enjoy. The facility is located in a very quiet residential area. Please refrain from having loud conversations in the garden or on the deck after 8 pm.

We also have kitchen utensils and dishes so you can buy sashimi at the fish shop and enjoy cooking with local ingredients. Relax in a ceramic bath, taste local welcome shochu, and chat in a bedroom that feels like a secret base… you can spend your time as you like. For those with children, you can rent a crib, baby circle, bath chair, toys, picture books, etc. The bedroom has 1 double bed and 1 semi-double bed. Reservations are available for up to 5 children. Please limit the number of adults to 4. We can also provide a spare single mattress. Please let us know in advance if you need it. Dinner catering is available with advance booking, and breakfast can be prepared at the harbor town coffee roastery across the street.
