Built in 1962 by a famous American architect, the house has been completely renovated to combine modernity and high-level comfort. In a private 2-hectare park, facing the magnificent Cap de Creus nature reserve, surrounded by the sea and protected by a pine forest, this iconic villa offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and a calm, unspoilt environment. It boasts direct access to the sea yet offers privacy with a spectacular infinity pool overlooking the crystal-clear water.
The space
Once owned by Salvador Dali’s manager, Captain Moore, Casa del Capitan spent twenty years playing host to some of history’s most famous artists, intellectuals, and free-spirits. Built atop a seaside rockface in a five-acre protected parkland, Casa del Capitan enjoys the utmost privacy without sacrificing any of its scenic views, ocean access, or proximity to nearby town, Cadaques. Even closer, you’ll have walking access to the beaches of Port Lligat, a small fishing village where Dali’s legendary home studio and museum reside.
Designed in the early sixties and renovated in twenty-eighteen, Casa del Capitan merges the architectural styles of fifties-California and colonial Spain to create a modern, simplistic, and comfortable villa that celebrates its beautiful environment. Casa del Capitan’s Main House contains five bedrooms; the other four are stand-alone units with independent access, all connected by Mediterranean patios and stone steps. Interior spaces are decorated with warm terracotta flooring tiles, spacious peaked ceilings, and whitewashed walls that act as a canvas for Casa del Capitan’s eclectic art collection. The villa’s outdoor spaces are peaceful and scenic; decorated with lush Mediterranean greenery and ocean vistas as for as the eye can see.
Casa del Capitan is a unique setting for a special occasion, and it is outfitted to make hosting a breeze. The on-site chapel is a dream come true if you’re planning a destination wedding. Two indoor and two alfresco dining areas make it easy to find the perfect setting for dinner. After, let the party spill onto the terrace, where you’ll find the swimming pool, several lounge areas, and steps leading down to the Mediterranean Sea.
Port Lligat and Cadaques, although quite small, are important parts of Spain’s cultural history. Their natural beauty caught the eyes of artists like Picasso, Duchamp, Dali, and many more, and they served as meeting places for the artistic elite for years. At Casa del Capitan, that exact same beauty surrounds you. If you’re traveling by foot, Cadaques is twenty-minutes from home. Known for its cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and seventeenth-century architecture, Cadaques is referred to as “the pearl of Costa Brava.” In town, you’ll enjoy fine dining, art galleries, museums, and inspiring views of the Mediterranean.
