Silfra Tectonic Snorkeling w/Photos
I take being a host on Airbnb very seriously and I’m all about offering the HIGHEST quality. When you choose my experience over others, you will have this super small and personal experience with a true local. I don’t have a HUGE operation with dozens of guides, where you never know who you are going with. This is why I have much smaller groups. Please note that due to how expensive it is to run the tour I can not take only one person on the tour. Please contact me if you are booking for just one person and I will see what I can do to make it happen. We will meet at Þingvellir national park, where the two tectonic plates, the north american and eurasian, are drifting apart from each other. Silfra is a fissure in between the two plates and has the clearest water on the planet. This makes Silfra one of the top dive sites in the world. I will help you get suited up in the drysuit and explain how to use the snorkeling equipment. Followed by a small briefing about Silfra fissure and how everything regarding the snorkel works. The activity in the water is about 25-30 minutes. After we get out of the water we walk back to the car and enjoy a warm drink and some snacks. Other things to note You must send all participants Height (cm), Weight (kg) and Shoe size (EU). This is very important so I can pick the right size of drysuit for you. Please meet me 10 minutes before the start time. If you arrive 15 min after the start time of the tour, you can not participate.
Silfra Snorkeling with Underwater Photos & Hot chocolate
Snorkel in Iceland at one of the top dive sites in the world, situated in Thingvellir National Park, only about 50 kilometers from Reykjavik. Silfra fissure exists due to the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates separating around 2 centimeters a year – leaving a rift in the landscape between them. This rift is filled with glacial water from Langjökull glacier that has been filtered through lava fields for decades before reaching Silfra – making the water exceptionally clear and drinkable. Drysuit Wearing a drysuit makes snorkeling in 2-4 degree Celsius (35 degree Fahrenheit) water achievable – without experiencing the cold. With a thermal undergarment and the protection of the drysuit, you manage to stay dry and warm. Wetsuit For our more daring and adventurous participants, who are after the ultimate Icelandic snorkeling experience, we usually recommend snorkeling in a wetsuit. You will have more mobility and are able to dive a little under the surface to explore Silfra up close and personal. Incredible visibility and views Experience the incredible visibility exceeding 100 meters, along with the breathtaking dramatic sights as rays of sunlight stretches its arms through the pristine waters, touching the rocks and algae growing on the walls of the canyon. Or watch as the snowflakes melt on top of the still, see-through water on a cold, crisp winter day. Other things to note NB; Stick to main roads and dont take any short cuts to Silfra, especially in the winter time. Give yourself time to get there and be prepared for any unexpected delays. Amending your reservation with less than 24 hour notice is 8000 ISK per person.

Volcano Hike with a Geologist
UPDATE: - This tour goes to the new eruption side, which started on 03.08.2022. - The hike is about 14km long (10miles) - Hiking boots, rainproof clothes, and water are highly recommended - Kids under the age of 12 are not allowed to join this tour Hike up to Iceland's newest Volcano and learn interesting geological features about the development of the eruption and the lava field. The eruption at Fagradalsfjall began on March 19, 2021, and offers the unique opportunity to experience a breathtaking natural spectacle in a very unique way. A "once-in-a-lifetime" experience that you will never forget. The tour starts with a pick-up in Reykjavik at Bus stop 8 (Hallgrimskirkja). The drive to the eruption site on Reykjanes peninsula leads through old lava fields and gives a first impression of the creation of Iceland and the forming of the landscape in this area. The Hike begins with an overview of the volcanic history on the Reyjanes peninsula and the first signs of a new eruption at this place. At the lava field, we will discover the forming of new land and learn how the composition of the lava influences the appearance of the rocks. The following hike, up to the crater viewpoint will give you a breathtaking view of the lava field and the surrounding area. The drive back to Reykjavik leads along hot springs, lakes, and mountains through the beautiful landscape of the Reykjanes peninsula. As a professional geologist/volcanologist, I can give you a detailed insight into the processes of the eruption. A volcanic eruption is a natural phenomenon, therefore the activity of the eruption can change quickly and the view of hot glowing lava can not be guaranteed. The hike takes about 2 hours to 2.5 hours in each direction (4 to 5 hours in total). It's a difficult hike through rough terrain and sometimes bad weather conditions. Hiking experience, physical fitness, and good hiking equipment are required. Because of gas pollution in the area, the hike is not recommended for children under 12 years, pregnant woman, or people with lung diseases. On request, the tour can take place on different days or a different times of the day. The hike can be canceled with short notice due to bad weather conditions or high gas pollution.
