Common questions related to the Nondiscrimination Policy
What happens if discrimination occurs during an Airbnb booking or stay?
Airbnb’s Nondiscrimination Policy was created to encourage belonging and inclusivity in our community. To report content from Airbnb profiles or listings that you believe violates our Nondiscrimination Policy, click or tap the flag icon in the Airbnb app.
To report a message exchange with another user on our website or within the app, click or tap the more icon , then select Report this message. To report an in-person or off-platform incident, or to send a detailed report, contact us. Please provide specific details and identify the person you believe has violated the Nondiscrimination Policy. If you experience discrimination during a trip and feel unsafe or require urgent assistance, you can contact the 24-hour safety line for support.
Note: In an emergency, or if your personal safety is threatened, contact local police or emergency services immediately.
What happens if a user violates the Nondiscrimination Policy?
If we determine that any user violated the Nondiscrimination Policy, we will take appropriate action at our discretion. This can include actions like issuing warnings, requiring confirmation that the user will comply with the Nondiscrimination Policy in the future, suspending or removing listings, or suspending or removing an account from the Airbnb platform – depending on the severity of the conduct. We may also ask for removal of language, objects, or images that were the basis of the violation.
We also reserve the right to take action for violations of this policy that occur off of the Airbnb platform in appropriate circumstances.
What if I face legal consequences for hosting guests with certain protected characteristics?
Applicable laws or regulations may require hosts to make distinctions that go against our Nondiscrimination Policy, such as on the basis of a guest’s protected characteristics including marital status, national origin, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. In these cases, we do not require hosts to violate applicable laws or regulations that could expose the hosts to a risk of legal liability or physical harm.
Hosts are allowed to explain any legal or regulatory restriction that is important for guests to know in a clear, factual and non-derogatory manner.
Please note that where the Nondiscrimination Policy provides more protections to users than local protections (and does not conflict with applicable laws or regulations), we require users to follow the policy. Likewise, if applicable laws or regulations are silent on a particular issue, this policy governs. Finally, if you believe laws or regulations require you to act in a way that is inconsistent with this policy, please contact our Customer Support team.
