Summer paradise by Göta Kanal

Gammalrud is a farm, which is located in the northern part of the peninsula, which goes into Lake Viken and is called Vika forests. Here we conduct forestry and lamb production since 1976. Surrounded by the beautiful forest, lake Viken (the highest point of Göta Kanal) and the hospitality of Thord and Ulla, this is your idyllic home away from home. We have renovated the old farm dairy, "Mejeriet", and made it into a nice home that we rent out to guests. The ground floor consists of a hallway, a kitchen suited for 8 persons and a large living room with a cozy fireplace. The living room floor is made of hand-made bricks from the old brickworks in the nearby village Horn. The upper floor consists of one large room with wooden floor and alcoves for 6 persons. At the old canal landing, we have built a large boathouse. Here is a place, not just for boats, but also for gatherings and parties. If you´d like to go fishing you are more than welcome to rent our small boat to try your luck catching pike, perch or any of the other fish in lake Viken. There is also a sauna in the Boathouse. Gammalrud is a farm dating back to the Middle Ages. A full list of previous owners dates back to 1498. In the 1600s, Gammalrud became a manor when the first corp de logi was built by Thord Jönsson Reuterberg. In the 1800s, Gammalrud became part of the Swedish industrial history by one of the owners, Theodor Winborg, also known as “Ättikskungen” , the founder of Winborg´s vinegar and later by his brother in law, Helge Palmqrantz, an inventor and industrialist with machine factories in Stockholm. Both agricultural tools and weapons were made there. A machine gun, designed by Helge Palmqrantz to be part of the defense on Karlsborgs fortress, can be seen at the fortress museum.

Comfortable holiday home with that little something extra. Close to swimming area, beautiful nature, golf course, Skövde and Skara Sommarland. The layout of the house is open and airy. The modern kitchen and inviting living room are situated in the open part of the house with an outstanding ceiling height. On the ground floor there is also a bedroom with a double bed (140 cm wide) and a toilet with shower. With a step ladder, you get up to the cozy sleeping loft that is equipped with two adjacent 90cm beds. Warmly welcome.

Relax with the family in this peaceful space. Throw wood in the hot tub and sauna after a long hike and relax. Grill freshly caught fish, under the apple tree you can see lake Viken. - Ica store (500m) - Djärknesundet (bathing area) 10 min away by car. -Tivedens National Park. -communal water & sewage. - Cleaning is not included- can arrange cleaning supplement of SEK 900 - Cleaning accommodation is charged 1500:- - Garbage is thrown in the green container located at the top of the top cabin at the top of the spring hill.

Slappna av i detta bekväma, unika och lugna boende mitt i skogen där ingen biltrafik råder. Här får ni närhet till bad och fiske i ett flertal sjöar. Vitsands och Djäknesundets vackra badplatser ligger 25 respektive 9 km från stugan. Flertalet naturreservat finns runt knuten. Tivedens nationalpark ligger endast 10 km bort. Tiveden bjuder också på vandrings-, rid- och kanotleder. Från Karlsborg kan man ta en tur med kanalbåten på Göta kanal eller besöka Karlsborgs fästning.

Relax with the whole family at this peaceful place to stay. Private jetty and beach. The sauna is waiting for you when you get back to the house. Two brand new toilets for your convenience. Close to fantastic Tiveden National Park and fishing just 100 meters from the house. Incredibly beautiful view of the lake Viken. Endless hiking areas just outside the house or why not borrow the two bicycles that are at your disposal and cycle down to the ice cream kiosk at Göta Canal.

Welcome to our little summer paradise. For many years we have had this cottage as our "breathing hole". Nowadays we are pensioners and live on the farm from which this plot was cut down. The cottage is located by the lake Viken, own jetty, small rowing boat and raft included. A guest cottage with several beds and equally nice views but without comfort is also available. Own shallow beach with beautiful sunset. We live 4 km from the cabin.

In the surrounding area [approx. 30 minutes' walk] you will find lakes and natural swimming areas. Alpacas, cats, dogs, geese, chickens and ducks live with us on the farm. Alpaca walks can be booked on site. Depending on the mood of nature, eggs can also be bought. 1 medium-sized dog is allowed.
