What you'll do

We will begin with a peek in the Boutique, featuring jewelry handcrafted by award-winning US artists, and a behind-the-scenes look at my working jewelry studio. I will also share some history of my 1890 building, including a copy of the handwritten deed to the original house. In the workshop you will use a combination of specialized jeweler's hand tools (the same that were used to make jewelry in the 19th century) and modern equipment to make your bracelet. First, you will hammer steel letter stamps to impress inspirational words, phrases, and designs of your choice onto a copper strip. Then, you will form the strip into a cuff bracelet with hammers and steel tools, oxidize (blacken) the metal, and polish to your desired finish. You will go home with a meaningful piece of jewelry that you created with your own hands. We limit the workshop to four students to guarantee lots of personal instruction, as well as the opportunity to get to know your classmates. You can relax and enjoy a glass of Virginia wine.
Other things to note
Our studio workstations are separated by plexiglass barriers. Hand sanitizer, masks, and disposable smocks are available. Unfortunately, our Victorian-era building is not fully accessible to the handicapped.

I’ve been making art all of my life (drawing, graphics, photography) and now my current passion is jewelry making. I own Wear Ever Jewelry Handcrafted Boutique and Jewelry School in charming Alexandria, Virginia, where I love helping students create their own uniquely personal jewelry using traditional hand techniques. My Master’s degree in Jewelry/Metals and nine years of nationwide teaching equip me with a thorough knowledge of design and techniques. My own work has been honored by the jewelry industry’s prestigious Saul Bell Design Awards, Niche Awards, and MJSA Vision Awards. In this workshop, you will be personally guided through the jewelry making process by me and/or Beth, our experienced goldsmith. We are always thrilled when students are bursting with delight and a sense of accomplishment at their finished pieces.

Where you'll be

Wear Ever Jewelry Boutique and Jewelry School is located in an 1890 row house in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, VA, a nationally designated historic district founded in 1749, near Washington, DC. The house is on the register of Alexandria's 100-year-old buildings, and is a fine example of Second Empire Victorian architecture. The Boutique is a soothing combination blush pink walls and crystal chandeliers. A working studio is on the premises.

I made a bracelet! I was able to use real tools (hammer, mallet, letter molds etc) to design and make a bracelet I can wear. I love wearable craft. The steps were clearly explained. I was able to practice and then create my masterpiece. Great experience.

Would recommend to anyone nearby Alexandria looking to get creative and have fun! This exceeded my expectations. Staff was very friendly, welcoming, patient and informative. Got to hear a lot about the history of the building and Old Town. There's many options for what you want to put on your bracelet, and the staff will guide you step by step to make sure you're on the right track.
