What you'll do
Come experience the wonderful world of the honeybee where we encourage you to take pictures. We begin our two-hour journey at a farm's gate in Odessa Florida. As we make our way along a winding road you might observe Florida wildlife such as birds, turkeys, and deer. Upon arrival at our hives, we will begin with a short demonstration of the equipment utilized in beekeeping and then immediately start the hands-on experience. At this point you will be able to see, feel, hear and touch apis mellifera (the European honey bee!) as I guide you to a better understanding of these amazing creatures. During our time together you will manipulate equipment, ask questions and get a practical appreciation of the bees. After, you will enjoy a refreshment while we discuss your recent experiences. Upon completion, we provide a 2oz honey bear and honey dipper to say thank you and as a memento of being a beekeper for a day.

As a university educated Biologist and professional beekeeper I provide hands-on experiences for novice beekeepers and the curious alike. Working with, educating about and protecting Living creatures is a lifelong passion which has taken me halfway around the world and back again! From the farms of Kansas to educating my children while living in Africa and finally to beautiful Tampa, Florida I have always been fascinated with the idea that if you look close enough you can find the beauty in every living thing. Showing this beauty is the goal of every encounter as it seems many people are talking about pollinating insects and how their dwindling populations are impacting everything from wildlife diversity to food production.

Where you'll be
There are two locations we will visit during this workshop. We begin and end our experience at Keystone Farmers Market which is approximately 2.9 miles from the farm. As our time together is mainly conducted at our beeyard located on a secluded portion of a working farm the farmers market is THE chance to use a modern restroom. The farm where you will work with bees is called Cee-Bee's Citrus farm which is private property.
